If you did everything recommended then the malware is either coming from either another website on your server or a file on the server that isn’t part of the core files such as the .htaccess file (did you check this one?)

I’m sorry to hear that your hosting company isn’t willing to help you Most good hosting companies will assist with this sort of thing. Also you should have a backed up version of the site before it was hacked, do you?

Unfortunately fixing hacked server’s isn’t something included in theme support because it puts my computer at risk and it can take many hours or a full day to fix the issue. Which is why it’s important to have security methods in place on your server in the first place and keep things up to date.

Reading your last comment I see that all the errors are coming from a theme named “sophiescrafts”. I have no idea what theme this is. Did you rename the Total theme to “sophiescrafts”? If so, did you make sure to delete all the files inside this folder and upload the latest version of the files?

Can you please send me some screenshots or a quick video showing that everything is up to date on your server. I just want to make sure before logging into anything that things are up to date. Thanks!

Thank you, but unfortunately none of this is helpful. All it’s telling you is that all the files on your server are basically hacked and contain malware. It doesn’t say anything about how the hacker accessed the site and where the core issue lies. This can only be done by viewing server access logs and running scans on the server after deleting all themes/plugins on the site and re-installing the core WP files.

If you want to log into the support site and send the FTP and WP logins I can re-install everything for you and run Some scans to see if we can locate the root of the issue. I’ll need to switch over to a different computer though to not put mine at risk and this can take some time to complete depending on the severity of the issue. But also I am not an expert at removing malware from a server, it may be best to contact an actual specialist in the field.

This is something completely outside the scope of support, but I am willing to help if you prefer that I help you out, I just can’t provide any sort of guarantees. Out of 27,000+ Total sales I’ve only had 1 customer before that was hacked but it was a very easy fix and it was because they were running outdated versions of WordPress and insecure passwords. So I don’t have a lot of experience in this matter. And I’ve never been hacked before (knock on wood).

Don’t you have a backup of your website before it was hacked that you can just revert to? That would be the fastest and easiest solution. Most servers keep daily backups of your website so maybe they have one.

If you are using this particular snippet you must also define the retina logo (I just updated the snippet, please have a look). Because the theme can’t possibly now the name for the retina logo (the logo is a bit different so it can’t just use the @2x extension.)

I jsut noticed though that the normal image filter is named “wpex_header_logo_img_url” but the retina filter is named “wpex_retina_logo_url” – so I will likely alter the filter to read “wpex_header_logo_img_retina_url” in the future, but if I do I will keep the fallback or at least add a deprecated notice

Great!

Looking at your code I see why you have issues though and you need to clear the CDN. Your site is missing all the version numbers at the end of the scripts which are important because it tells your CDN and the browser if a script (css or js file) has changed so it can load the new one.

I’m guessing you are using a plugin or some code to remove these. Some people do it because sites like Google Insights (page speed) tell you to remove them (although it causes 0 difference in actual site loading time – unless you are changing the version every day, which would never happen in the theme as it only changes with theme updates when the file actually changes).

I highly recommend keeping the script version numbers enabled on the site – because even if you purge your CDN if other customers don’t clear their browser cache then the site could appear broken for them since nothing is telling the browser to load the new scripts.

Thanks for the heads up AJ, could it be W3TC that would remove these ? I don’t think I coded anything to do this so I think it must be as that’s the main optimisation plugin I use (probably not the best idea to use settings found on Google). Don’t worry I know you can’t support someone else’s plug but if you think it could be this I’m sure I can disable it . But w3tc also has a setting called “Prevent caching of objects after settings change” – which I think does the same thing.

If you look at the notices the malware isn’t being stored in the Total theme but in the index.php file and in another theme named “sophiescrafts”.

That said, malware will always try and add it’s code into the active theme but the exploit can be in WordPress itself or a plugin. The theme itself should be 100% secure as no one has ever been hacked via the Total theme as it’s a very secure product. 99% of the time hacked sites are due to having an outdated version of WordPress or installing illegal copies of premium theme’s from insecure sources.

Here are my recommended steps (if your hosting company isn’t able to help you):

• First if you are using a PC make sure your computer itself doesn’t have a virus as that’s also a common way to get your site infected.

• Then locate the index.php file mentioned above via FTP and remove anything inside that file.

• Locate the searchform.php file mentioned above and simply delete it completely.

• Log into WordPress, change your admin passwords (and username if you are using “admin” for the username which is very insecure).

• Next update all themes and plugins. If you have plugins or themes that don’t need updating, delete and re-install them.

• Go to Dashboard > Updates and click the re-install option to make sure all the core WP files are re-uploaded with clean versions.

• Change your WordPress salt keys in your wp-config.php file – https://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/salt/

• Make sure your hosting company has a built-in firewall and login limiting rates (so if someone doesn’t enter the right password several times it blocks them). If they don’t then you should install a plugin for this.

• Run your site through Sucuri to make sure you are safe – https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/

That should help you get things going. The most important part though after the site is cleaned is to make sure you are keeping all your themes, plugins and WordPress up to date. Even if the themes or plugins aren’t active.

Version 1.1 is from 2013 so you’ll have some steps to do. More importantly you should never update a theme by overriding theme files (if you want to update via FTP you must delete the theme and re-upload it because sometimes files are removed so if you override the folder you may have files on the server that are no longer used and can break things).

Hi there,

You can install the theme on as many development sites as needed, the only thing you can’t do is “activate” the license on multiple installations. But the license is only used for updates and demo importer so it’s not required to have the theme license active anyway. Everything in the theme will still work 100% (theme settings, page builder, etc)

Plus you can always activate/deactivate on the domains as needed. For example if you setup a development site first and activate the theme you can always de-activate the license after you move everything over to the live site and then activate it there.

Also, if you are using a multi-site installation with sub-domain mapping and you activate the license on the primary site then it will remain active for all sub-sites.

That’s actually impossible. Because when WordPress updates a theme it only replaces the theme files, but the customizer settings are stored in the database.

If you were using a child theme by any chance can you double check to make sure your child theme is still active and not the parent?

Or…did you by any chance rename the theme “Total” on your server to something else? If you did, you will have to rename it back to whatever custom name you were using. WordPress saves all customizer settings based on the folder name of the theme. So if you updated and it renamed the folder back to Total then it will look like your settings are gone, but it’s because your theme isn’t the same name now.

The WooCommerce Wizard is disabled by default to prevent conflicts with the Demo Importer (because the demo importer uses ajax and when you enable WooCommerce via the demo importer it will try and redirect to the WooCommerce Wizard).

So, simply go to Theme Panel and disable the demo importer if you want to use the Wizard

Whenever a module needs to accept HTML it must be saved as base24 code to prevent conflicts in the shortcode. Which isn’t as efficient which is why it doesn’t support html by default.

But it does accept shortcodes. So maybe the best solution here is to add a custom shortcode to the site for a breakpoint (I’ll add it in the upcoming update) I have a guide here – http://www.wpexplorer.com/wordpress-line-break/

Thank you for your interest and for your patience, I had an appointment yesterday and wasn’t able to get through all pending comments.

So regarding the shop. Definitely you can enable a sidebar and make it look more like the other demo. Every demo uses the same Total theme so anything you see on any demo can be applied to your site because the demos are basically just sample content (text+images) and then custom settings applied in the Customizer – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/theme-options/

So for example if you see that one demo has a black header and another has a white header it’s just a setting in the Customizer to tweak that. Same with things like sidebars, widgets, etc.

Regarding the mobile columns. There currently isn’t a built-in setting but it’s very easy to do in a child theme using some custom code. I have a sample snippet here – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/change-woocommerce-columns-custom-columns-mobile/ – which I can help you modify to fit your needs.

I am also looking into adding the mobile column settings into the next bigger theme update though so you can choose your columns for tablets and phone sizes right in the Customizer

Yes. I am looking to shrink my sticky header. When the plugin is enabled I am able to set start height and shrink height (for header style 3). However, once set the shrink is not working. The sticky header is working but it is not shrinking.
