I purchased Total yesterday. Was impossible to install – a style sheet was missing, WP would not accept the ZIP file, I had to manually FTP all the files to the correct location and install the whole thing manually. I read that this theme could be used on multiple sites, only to find out that it can’t, it’s only good for one site. WHat a waste. I’m not happy at all. For this much money, it should install with one click in 5 minutes like every other high end theme. I’m going to request a refund since this experience has been awful. It’s no better than any other front-end development, fully customizable site. It sounded good, but hasn’t performed as per the marketing hype. How do I request a refund. I’m happy to turn over my API key immediately! argh. Where on earth does leaving a comment in a blog about how to resolve a “missing stylesheet installation failure” constitute good service and worthy of $61? Sorry for venting but VERY frustrated and annoyed with this theme experience. thx.
Hi there,
This is AJ the theme developer.
First of all you, are correct, installation should be very easy and it is!
The installation error you were receiving was server related and nothing to do with the theme itself.
To fix your error all you have to do is increase the upload limit and/or memory limit on your server. This is a common issue with lower-end budget hosting plans. And the theme documentation has a whole article dedicated to installation errors if you do run into any problem: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/theme-installation-errors/
- I don’t understand why you think you need to leave a comment on a “blog” for support. We do offer private support via email which is mentioned on the Support tab – https://themeforest.net/item/total-responsive-multipurpose-wordpress-theme/6339019/support – Not to mention the very first sentence on the support tab explains how to fix the error you were seeing when trying to install the theme.
And actually I see you did open a support ticket and my support staff send you a lengthy reply: https://cl.ly/p6CB
- Regarding installation on multiple websites. This isn’t mentioned anywhere, if you can tell me where you read that it would be fantastic so I can update it accordingly as it shouldn’t say that anywhere.
- The theme price is $59 which is very affortable considering all the amazing support and updates that are included with the theme. This is why a lot of our customers purchase the theme on a weekly or monthly basis for all their client work as they understand the value of a well coded and supported product.
After the Envato market takes 30% of the sale price and US taxes take another 30% there is little left to pay for a dedicated support staff, hosting for demos, marketing purposes and make a living. This is why themes cost what they do and we rely on customers purchasing multiple licenses. It’s not some sort of gimmick, but this is how theme developers make a living and there are a lot of expenses the end customer may not be aware of and a lot of time goes into supporting a theme and keeping it up to date.
Regarding refunds you can request a refund here: https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/202821460-Can-I-Get-A-Refund-
Of course sometimes customers get a bit heated when they run into an issue that they didn’t expect. Once they realize it was actually do to a server or user error they calm down a bit and are able to actually use the theme and see how great it is and decide to keep it. If that’s the case I am more than happy to help answer any pending question you may have and as always I am open to any suggestions for future improvements to the theme. I’m not trying to convince you otherwise, if you want a refund please request it, I am merely stating that if you want to give it a try and run into any problems we are here to help

Hi – I have a client that wan’t a site that they can use for several customers, so they need an “open/extended” license. Meaning the only need to pay once, but then can use the theme on several sites. Is it possible to buy such a license to Total? And if, how much does it cost? The customers will not get an open theme, but a customized theme where they only can choose between five colors and put text in to Custom Post types that we have made for them. Visual composer is not nescessery.
And just another question – is your theme compatible with Gutenberg?
Hi,
This is Aj the theme developer.
- Unfortunately this isn’t possible since there isn’t a license available and each theme must be activated under Theme Panel > Theme License.
They will have to purchase a license for each customer. However, what we can do and have done in the past is provide a discount for bulk sales. For example, if your client knows they will at least use the theme for example 50 times this year they can bulk purchase 50 licenses for the year at a discounted rate. Each time they setup a customer site they can either manually add the license for them or give them their license code to activate the theme. We are working with a company doing something similar and purchasing 500 licenses a year.
Now..if they want to work with me to create something custom for their website/customers I would be open to that and we I can create a newly branded theme for them similar to Total with all the same features but not actually Total. And it can be customized to only include what your client needs so it’s super slim and fast (so only the post types, customizer settings and CSS they need). This would be something I would most likely charge by the hour as opposed to a one time fee, but depending on how your client’s budget I can work something out.
- I have not yet tested with Gutenberg because it’s still in development and things keep changing. But most likely when it’s finally finished and released I will probably have it disabled by default in Total. It has horrible ratings and it’s just not that good, I don’t even understand why WordPress wants to include it in core…
- AJ
Hi AJ
Thanks so much for your answer
I’m pretty sure they do not want eg. 50 licenses – but a customized or newly branded theme could be a great idea. I asked my own employees if they could make e new theme, but it would take us to long time, and it would not be half as good as your work and we really really like your work.
I can send you a list of those functions that is the reason we have pointed at Total, and a list of those functions we do not need (eg. Portfolio and many others – the end result is actually pretty simple). We need an extra custom post types or two but we can make these our self. Would you be able to send an offer for such a theme if I provide you with these info?
And I also do not think Gutenberg look even near by something I would send on to a client yet, but it was a specific question from this client
Linda Kristiansen
Hi Linda,
If you want you can email me privately at wpexplorer ( at gmail dot com ) with some further details that I can look at so I can provide some sort of cost/timeline.
Because the end customer is basically reselling the product there would have to be an added cost as well as it technically would be in direct competition.
Of course I would like to work on this, make some extra cash, etc…But in the end if all the client really wants is the page builder it would probably be much much cheaper for you to just start out with a free theme such as mine here – http://www.wpexplorer.com/elegant-free-wordpress-theme/ – (it’s 100% GPL/free so you can strip out or edit it however you want for your client). And then they just purchase extended licenses of the page builder they want to use and maybe even a page builder addons plugin or any other plugins that they need and bundle those with the free theme.

I am interested in purchasing Total Theme. I am making a portfolio website with artworks that are each a different unique size. Is there a way to display each unique measurement and show the whole artwork without having to be within standard parameters in the settings? Is there a custom setting on each portfolio page or woocommerce product page that can be set for a unique measurement for each artwork? Please email me with a response. your theme looks great and very comprehensive but I need this custom feature without having to write code for it. Thank you!
Hi there,
This is Aj the theme developer for the Total theme and owner of WPExplorer.
By default images are NOT cropped or resized at all in this theme, this is to give you full control over your media. For any custom cropping you want you would define it in the theme settings – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/define-your-image-sizes/
The only thing to really worry about is for WooCommerce any image displayed on a product page is by default stretched to 100% to prevent problems with the gallery slider. The images also display on the left side next to the title and product details so their width is going to be dependent on the width of your site and the percentage width set for the gallery. Example: https://cl.ly/p4Vf
You can easily alter the shop widths though via some CSS as shown in this snippet: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/woo-product-widths/
This WooCommerce aspect should be the same no matter the theme you choose though.
But in general your images will always keep their original proportions they will never be cropped by default when using this theme.
If you have other questions let me know.
- AJ
ps: I can’t email you directly because I don’t have access to your email. But if you checked the box to get an email notification when I reply then you should get one
Thanks AJ. The code you sent worked to make the image itself on the product page appear full size.
But I also need it to appear full size on the shop page and the product category page grid displays. I know this is difficult because it will affect the symmetry of the grids, but maybe you have some code for that so I can test it. I tried to re-write your code a bit but nothing I tried worked. Any help is appreciated. I guess the code would have to re-size the image proportionally to fit the width in the grid size in the define your image size settings.
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, I need the images to line up on the bottom horizontal plane, too. This picture show that they line up at the top of the horizontal plane and the full image is not showing in one of the very long horizontal images.
file:///Users/kariwrede/Desktop/Screen%20Shot%202018-01-24%20at%2011.45.14%20AM.png
Another thing I will need to do is make more space between each product on the shop grid and the product category grid. here is some code that works for the shop.
Will Total theme be able to do this for product CATEGORIES grid too?
body.archive #products-grid li { padding-left:50px !important; padding-right:50px !important; }
Thanks!
here is the correct link for an example of improper layout lining up on the top of the grid instead of the bottom http://43a.4a3.myftpupload.com/shop-2/
Hi,
When you say it worked…do you mean you are testing in the browser?
I honestly don’t quite understand what you are trying to do and the screenshot you shared is a link to your computer so I can’t see it you will have to upload it to a 3rd party sharing site.
But from what I understand you want to keep images proportional but give them a max height so that all the images in the grid have the same height. That’s possible via CSS using max-height 100% and width auto. However, if you have vary different default image sizes it you may need to actually crop/resize some images to make it work perfectly.
The theme has a built-in option to select the “gap” between products so no extra code needed: https://cl.ly/p3wE – which targets the main shop page, categories, tags and related products.
- AJ
AJ – I am testing this on a staging website using a theme that will not work for me. I am hoping Total will work better.
here is an active link of the shop grid. http://43a.4a3.myftpupload.com/shop-2/
I don’t want the images to have a set proportion. Each artwork is a unique width and height. The code you sent for the width of the gallery shows the true size of the image. http://43a.4a3.myftpupload.com/product/evening-wind-1922-edward-hopper/.
But you will notice on the shop link, this image does not show up entirely on the grid. So, I need some code so the whole image will size proportionally into the set grid display and line up at the bottom, and not the top. does that make sense?
Hi,
I understand you don’t want a “set” proportion but you want to keep the native proportion of your images.
The reason the image doesn’t display in full on your shop page is because the theme you are using is cropping the image. You need to disable the cropping on the site and maybe regenerate your thumbnails depending on how the theme works.
In Total by default WooCommerce images aren’t cropped by default.
You have very large images also so you may want to display the grid in 1 column which you can do in Total via the built-in setting: https://cl.ly/p471
I am happy to provide answers to pre-purchase questions but I can’t assist in fixing/modifying your current site. Any tests you make on a specific theme may or may not work on a different one. The only way to get a true idea of how things work is by modifying the actual theme you are going to use.
- AJ
I forgot to mention…most themes don’t crop the WooCommerce images so it may not be your theme cropping the image but the WooCommerce settings.
In Total I disabled the default WooCommerce plugin cropping so you have more control over it and added unique settings just for Total. Which is why images don’t crop by default.
- AJ
You totally sold me on your theme, AJ. Fantastic support!
In my test theme, I already did turn off the hard crop and regenerate the thumbnails in Woo and the theme, but it was not lining up at the bottom on the shop and product category grids. Does Total theme have a setting for the images line up on the bottom? Thank you so much, AJ
Aj – the links I sent were not meant for you to fix, but just a visual reference. thx.
Hi there,
So the issue with bottom alignments is because of how HTML (websites) work. If your images aren’t all lining up at the bottom it’s because every image is a different proportion. And things can get a bit tricky with that because your images themselves aren’t equally proportioned to each other. In order for the images to all align vertically compared to each other they must be the same size as each other. Cropping would fix this, but if you don’t want to crop your images than it can only be done with some CSS and even then the CSS will only work if your images follow some sort of similar sizing that makes it possible to use CSS and have things look good still. For example if your vertical images are significantly taller and your horizontal images are significantly wider it will be hard to achieve a very nice look with the images all being bottom aligned.
Example: https://cl.ly/p5d0
Hopefully this makes sense and helps whether you purchase the theme or not.

Is there a way to remove the portfolio-item from the URL for portfolio items? TY
Hi,
You can change the slug via the Post Type Editor page – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/renaming-post-types/
Or you can remove the slug completely from all custom post types – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/remove-post-type-slugs/ – however, this isn’t generally recommended. The reason post types have slugs in WordPress is to prevent conflicts with pages, posts and media.

Hi AJ. I hope you’re well. I need to add a new overlay style and have found the article on how to do this, but am struggling with the code! I want to use the ‘Title Bottom See Through’ image overlay style but have it appear on hover only. If it can slide up too (not push up) that would be even better! Any help, as ever, gratefully appreciated. N
Hi,
I am doing well, I hope you are also
So for the PHP code you don’t need much since you just want to display the title. Example:
// Only used for inside position
if ( 'inside_link' != $position ) {
return;
}
echo '<div class="my-custom-overlay">' . esc_html( get_the_title() ) . '</div>';
Rename my-custom-overlay to whatever you want (make sure it’s unique and prefixed). Then you just need to add CSS to absolutely position the item, hide it by default and then show it on hover.
Every overlay has an “overlay-parent” classes added to the link before it. So you can target your overlay hover affect like this:
.overlay-parent:hover .my-custom-overlay { }
If you aren’t sure about the CSS you can always copy the css/html from an online tutorial like this – https://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_css_image_overlay.asp

Hi AJ.
I am building a custom news page where i have a Post Types Grid and a Navigation Bar with a custom menu to control the output of the Post Grid.
I am trying to show, only for the entries, the title above the image. How can i achieve this using the current setup or other elements?
Here’s the link: https://stone-preprod.addb.fr/pt/noticias/
Thanks.
Hi there,
First of all the site is looking very clean and slick, nice work!
Unfortunately there is no good way to move the title up for the post types grid without manually editing the file at vcex_templates/post_types_grid.php via your child theme.
I would recommend instead of using this module to use the “Post Types Archive” module which allows you to display your posts just like they do for categories/tags. And you can easily add more blocks like this – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/blog-builder/
You won’t be able to add the custom javascript filter, but for SEO and as your site gets bigger I recommend instead just adding a standard menu to your sidebar with links to your category archives.
- AJ
Or…you can create a custom grid layout via WPBakery Page Builder > Grid Builder and then use the “Post Grid” module to display them, but this module loads via AJAX so it’s a bit slower to load. But it does have a built-in JS filter.
Hello AJ and thank you for your answer and website feedback. I must say i’ve been building quite a few nice things with your template. One of these days, i’ll make a list to send you.
The client prefers to have the ajax filter instead of news category pages; because the number of news will always be small, i don’t think that will be a problem.
I have edited (via child-theme) the vcex_template in question and i think the results are good, but i just wanted to check with you.
I have moved the Title section of the code up to right after “Inner Entry Output” and before “Display Media” and removed the “elseif” to “if” here:
// Entry title
$output .= '<'. $title_tag .' class="vcex-post-type-entry-title entry-title" '. $heading_style .'>';
if ( 'post' == $title_link ) {
$output .= wpex_parse_html( 'a', array(
'href' => esc_url( $latts['post_permalink'] ),
'target' => $latts['url_target'],
'style' => $heading_link_style,
), wp_kses_post( $latts['post_title'] ) );
} else {
$output .= $latts['post_title'];
}
$output .= '</'. $title_tag .' >';
I am having positive results but i wanted to make sure this will not give me problems over time: https://stone-preprod.addb.fr/pt/noticias/
Thanks!
Hi,
You shouldn’t run into issues later on, the only problem is that if I push out an update for the file it may have to be updated manually. But you could just register a new shortcode and rename this file so it would be “your own” module.
I have a guide about that here: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/custom-grid-module/ – basically copying the whole module and then renaming it so you have full control over it.
I do want to mention though that the filter is not AJAXED it’ just an isotope filter – https://isotope.metafizzy.co/filtering.html – which filters out current items on the page.
I am planning on releasing an ajaxed Grid module later this year though with both ajaxed categories and ajaxed load more, it’s currently under development. And it will be an easier module to move things around or add/remove parts of the grid. And you will even be able to create the layout for the entries by creating a templatera template and assigning it to the grid. This is all a work in progress though…
- AJ
Hi, AJ.
I read that particular tutorial before and i need to spend some time to follow every step without mistakes. Thanks for that tip!
I have been dreaming of the possibility of using Templetera to build entry templates because Grid Builder is very limited for lots of things. Not a problem to hand-code it, but it’s going to be simpler, yes.
Do you have an approximate delivery date for that?
Regards.
If you need any help with following the tutorial please let me know! I could even make a video possible showing how to do this for any module
I don’t have an exact estimate but the plan is to hopefully release Total 5 before or by March 1st with a bunch of awesome new stuff
An issue with using templatera for the grid layouts is dynamically getting entry data because technically any module you add will be outside the loop and so it will try and pull data from the current page and not the grid entry. So it’s going to be pretty tricky and if it ends up not being possible I have some ideas for a better way of creating unique grids
That said, some customers are already using and loving the 2 grid plugins “Essential Grid” and “The Grid” both are fantastic. The first one was created by the same people that made Slider Revolution, the later is a newer author but the plugin is very pretty
- AJ
Hi AJ. One last question about the news section of this website: when you are reading a post (after you choose it from the News list) i have, again, a Navigation Bar with the exact same categories as the main News page. My idea is to be able to get the visitor to the News page after he clicks one of the Categories, but also update the News list according to the clicked Category, when the destination page loads. Meaning: when reading the single news, if i click category A, i’ll be transported to the News feed and it should only show Category A news.
Is this possible with the current setup? As for now, the Navigation Bar of the single news is not correctly “linked” to a news list. I am just wondering how to do this.
Thanks once again.
Yes it is possible to do that, but not with the Post Types Grid module you are using, due to it’s complexities.
If you switch to the Blog Grid module instead then you should be able to link to a category like this: https://stone-preprod.addb.fr/pt/noticias/?filter=67#news-start (where 67 is the category ID)
Then you would want to create a custom menu at Appearance > Menus then added it to the sidebar – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/custom-menu-widgets/ – with your custom links
- AJ
Yes but that would prevent me from having only one “main” news page instead of category archive pages – the same we discussed in your first answer, correct? Also, i made a quick test following your instructions, but after i click the custom link (as you suggested), the main news page loads, scrolls to the correct #div but no filtering occurs.
If you want to try it: https://stone-preprod.addb.fr/pt/noticias-2/, click the first news (Novo Artigo 2) and then click the custom link you told me to use.
Thanks.
Hi,
No it wouldn’t prevent you from anything. You are using the Post Type Grid module which supports any post type. The Blog Grid module is just unique to the “Blog” and it allows for sorting. Example: http://totaltheme.wpengine.com/base/portfolio/?filter=design (this is a portfolio grid module since I didn’t have a live example of the blog grid, but the blog grid works the same)
It doesn’t look like you enabled the filter on this page – https://stone-preprod.addb.fr/pt/noticias-2/ for the grid module.
- AJ
OH, i misread what you said. I thought i could keep using the Navigation Bar to filter the entries but i guess i’ll have to stick to the Grid’s filter. I have tested and it works.
The problem is that i needed to have the filter as a “sidebar” and not on top of the blog entries.
But just in case the client signs off on this solution, how can i set the custom link to go to “ALL” posts, when i am on a post single view?
As always thanks for your help.
Sorry if I confused you..
You need to enable the filter on the homepage. On the single posts you will use a normal menu that links to the homepage.

Hi there, what´s the best method to update version 1.6.2 to the current version without messing up everyting?
Wow, ok version 1.6.2 is from 2014 so quite a bit has changed. But as long as you haven’t made any manual edits to any theme files then you should be pretty much ok to update. The best thing would be to go to the changelog first and read the important notices: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/changelog/ – for all versions released after 1.6.2 to see what big changes have been made (notices with red left border).
For example there has been some big changes, skins have been removed and some edits have been made to the Visual Composer (which as been renamed to WPBakery Page Builder).
In general you shouldn’t have any real big issues. But I do highly recommend backing up your website just incase. You should have backups of your site already (very important to keep backups of any website). The main reason for this is if someone ever made manual edits to the theme you can access those after updating and properly added them to a child theme instead – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/child-theme/
In terms of actually updating. You have a few options:
- Use the Envato Market plugin which you can delete after updating. More info on the docs here: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/update-theme/
- You can just delete the Total theme folder via FTP and re-upload (very important to delete it and not just override it since some files have been removed and if they still exist can cause problems).
- You can log into WordPress switch themes, delete the theme and then upload the latest version.
The most important thing I recommend is disabling ALL plugins while updating the theme to prevent any sort of conflicts. Once the theme is updated go to Appearance > Install Plugins and here you can update the bundled plugins before re-activating them.
Once all plugins are up to date then re-enable them.
And of course if you run into any issues or need any further help, just let me know!
- AJ
Fantastic! Thx for your help!
.
?
lol sorry AJ – wrong box and can’t figure out how to delete
I looked in Slack. I logged in yesterday but Slack wasn’t showing any notices under my DM from you, but I just clicked on your name and I see there are some new threads. I’ll reply in a sec.
yeah – I sometimes find it difficult to navigate slack myself – and I don’t have the type of activity you do so I get it man – no worries
It’s not even navigating, whenever someone sends a DM it usually shows a red bubble like this: https://cl.ly/p1gN – next to your name. When I log into slack if I don’t see any red bubbles I just assume there is no new DM’s since I can’t check all 50 users manually each time I log in to see if they said anything. Today it was showing 5 new DM’s from you but yesterday it didn’t show any
I’m not sure why, but if you do @wpexplorer on any thread then it normally triggers the notice on my end.
- AJ
OK will append messages with your user name in the future to help make things easier on you… except I didn’t do that on the last reply to you a few minutes ago :/
Don’t worry about me man! I just feel bad if I don’t respond to you fast enough just because I didn’t see it
It’s all good man – now go back and check for red bubbles – there might be a few
Hi, can anyone help me. I’d like to make the header menu text multicoloured, or each menu option a coloured block with white text, if possible. How can I go about this? I’ve searched other sites and found solutions but I can’t get them to work on my website. It’d just be great to make the site more attractive with a multi-coloured menu. Would love some support/advice. Thanks in advance.
Of course, we are here to help
This is be pretty easy to do but does require some work. In WordPress every menu item has it’s own unique classnames as you can see when inspecting the code: https://cl.ly/p2oA
So you can use these to target them with custom CSS and give them custom backgrounds. Example:
.menu-item-10038 {
background: #000;
}
If you want to share your URL i can give you the basic code for your site that you can paste into the custom css field – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/making-css-edits/ – and all you need to do is replace the hex values with the hex colors you want to use
- AJ
Sure, thanks, it’s www.youngadultcca.org.uk. Thanks so much, that’d be fantastic. I’m very out of touch with coding but am trying to learn. Thanks for your help.
Hi,
Unfortunately all I see is a coming soon page when I visit your site can you disable that so I can look at the live site using total?
- AJ
Ah sorry! I forgot about the under construction part. Doh. Off now
Excuse the site, it’s in a bit of a mess (the slider) as it was transferred and I haven’t resolved the slider images getting lost.
Thanks, I can see the site now
Ok so if you are going to do colored menu items I would recommend first switching your header style: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/header-styles/ as well as setting your site to the boxed layout so the colors can look nice – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/theme-layouts/
And increasing your logo size which is currently restricted by the shrink header settings in the Customizer – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUxnwB0JQGU
To style three where the menu is centered below the logo and you’ll want to add some CSS to evenly spread out the menu items.
I would also recommend removing the search and shop icons from the menu (can be done in the Customizer).
So the CSS would look like this:
body .navbar-style-three {
border: none;
background: #444;
}
.boxed-main-layout #wrap .container.navigation {
padding: 0;
}
body .navbar-style-three .dropdown-menu>li {
width: 12.5%;
display: block;
float: left;
}
body .navbar-style-three .dropdown-menu > li > a {
font-size: 14px;
font-weight: bold;
color: #fff ;
height: 60px;
line-height: 60px;
}
#menu-item-4732 {
background: #fbba36;
}
#menu-item-4942 {
background: #f49516;
}
#menu-item-4972 {
background: #fbba36;
}
#menu-item-4972 {
background: #eb526b;
}
#menu-item-5412 {
background: #b32e66;
}
#menu-item-4790 {
background: #80b1e0;
}
#menu-item-4938 {
background: #88aa69;
}
#menu-item-4937 {
background: #9db357;
}
#menu-item-4941 {
background: #77c8f1;
}
Your menu final result would be something like this: https://cl.ly/p2Pt – which I think is more or less what you would want.
Of course you’ll want to pick colors a bitter better following the rainbow perhaps so it looks best, I just chose random ones from your logo.
- AJ
Hi AJ – I have installed total and would like to install woocommerce but cannot find a prompt to do so even though the woocommerce folder is in the Total theme directory. How do i go about this? I am developing currently offline.
Hi there,
WooCommerce is a free plugin available in the WordPress repository so no need to have it in Total. Simply go to Plugins > Add New and search for it so you can download it.

Thank you
I always get a signup error (Sorry, that email address is already used!) when I try to login via https://wpexplorer-themes.com/support/ Can you help me via pm ? Thx
Hi,
This happens if you changed your Envato username. What was your old username so that I can delete the previous account?
- AJ
Never mind I can see your previous username on your profile page, I’ve removed you so you should be able to log in now. And of course you can always ask questions here as well if it doesn’t need to be private

Hello. I already have entries on the site by reference such as site.com/test1, I want to create the same page in the portfolio, but I see that the link when transferring the record to the portfolio already has the form site.com/portfolio-item/test1. My entries already have certain positions in google. Is it possible to have links in the portfolio as site.com/test1?
Hi,
It is possible via the option in the theme mentioned here – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/remove-post-type-slugs/
However, there is a reason WordPress has slugs on custom post types and it’s to prevent conflicts with pages, images and posts. So if you do this you need to make sure you don’t have any conflicting slugs.
Depending how many items you are moving you can also just 301 redirect the old URL’s to the new ones and it Google will pass on the link juice.

Hi! I was wondering if the snippet “Display Read-More Button For Blog Posts With The Read-More Tag Only” should still be up to date. I added it to child theme functions.php and added read more in blogposts, but nothing happens. No button in sight. https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/read-more-tag-button/
Hi,
Yes it should still work you can see the default function and filter at framework/conditionals.php – https://cl.ly/p2Ko
However, if you disable the readmore button manually in the Customizer – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/blog-builder/ – then it will never display. Can you make sure it’s enabled there?

Hi, AJ, I have one question about child theme for Total. If I only use the demos of Total to creat my own website, should I make and use the child theme?Or I do not need child theme at all? I am puzzled by the child theme…I have tried to change some contents on one demo and updated Total but my own data is still there…. Thanks for your helping!
Hi,
A child theme is ONLY for making advanced modifications such as those found in the sample snippets: http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/
If you don’t plan on making any advanced edits or hiring a developer to make edits on your behalf then you don’t need a child theme.
An of course if needed later on you can always install a child theme whenever. So if you don’t need it, don’t bother with a child theme until you do need it
I hope this makes sense, let me know if you have any followup questions!
- Aj
I got it now. Thanks a lot!
Hi, is there any snippet to move the order review table (“Tu pedido” in my demo) to the left column over the payment method: https://bulletcamisetas.es/finalizar-compra/
Thanks a lot
Hi,
You could add this code as well to move the order review table.
remove_action( 'woocommerce_checkout_order_review', 'woocommerce_checkout_payment', 20 ); add_action( 'woocommerce_after_order_notes', 'woocommerce_order_review', 10 );
The problem is because of how WooCommerce works you’ll be left with a heading that says “Your Order”.
The easiest thing to do is to copy the file from the plugin at woocommerce/templates/checkout/form-checkout.php and add it to your child theme (with the same folder structure) and alter the HTML.

“The Google Maps API server rejected your request. This API project is not authorized to use this API.” – What now? Thanks!
Hi,
You need to give me some context so I can help you. What are you trying to do? Where do you see this error?
The Total theme doesn’t make use of the Google Maps API anywhere, are you using some sort of plugin to insert custom maps?
- AJ
Sorry, I was in a hurry. It is the Google Maps element of WPBakery, so maybe nothing that concerns you directly. I don’t know where I am supposed to enter the API key, so I installed the Google Maps API KEY plugin and generated a key, but it didn’t help.
Hi,
You shouldn’t need an API key for the WPBakery Google Maps because it takes a full embed code unless you are using a 3rd party map addon which requires an API or you aren’t entering an embed code which should look something like this: https://cl.ly/p1CN
News: I just added the embed code again, and now it works! Apparently there was something wrong with the code that my colleague had added. Don’t know where he got that from. Sorry to have bothered you with it.
No worries, I’m just glad it’s working now
Awesome!
Today I installed updates for WP, Total and WPBakery. All looking fine, except changes in Staff are not saved. I edit data for a staff member, just a piece ot text, update, and get the old text back. What now? Thanks!
Can you first try clearing your browser and site cache? It’s possible your site is loading old page builder scrips so it’s not saving.
Also by not saving, do you mean in the backend and the front-end?
- AJ
I clear my browser cache every other minute, that’s not it. But I found a detail: It only affects the custom fields. Changing description or excerpt works. Site cache: I use no cache plugin. Is there a standard cache that I am perhaps not aware of?
Are you editing the custom fields manually? Because that won’t work, since the Total page settings metabox will override them – https://cl.ly/p0qa – since the Total metabox save function runs after the WordPress save function.
- AJ
Thanks for the screenshot – that looks totally different than mine: https://cl.ly/p0MF I don’t have those tabs and no WPBakery for staff items … EDIT: yes, I actually do have those tabs, in the settings area. But definitely no WPBakery in there. And indeed, editing in that staff member tab works. If you hadn’t told me about it, I wouldn’t know how I could have known. And I wonder why the fields in Custom Fields section are at all editabe if they are always overwritten anyway …
Hi,
- By default the custom fields are hidden in WordPress and the Page settings are visible unless someone enabled the custom fields under “Screen Options” (top right of the WP dashboard when editing a post) and disabled the Page Settings.
The documentation explains how to add staff members which references the staff settings: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/staff/
- Please have a look here for enabling the page builder on other post types – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/enable-disable-vc/ – it is disabled on staff by default because generally people use the staff to add bios only and don’t use the page builder.
- AJ
Excellent, thank you!
If you need anything else just let me know! And I realize over time docs may get outdated so if you find any online docs confusing our outdated just tell me and I’ll update it right away

How do I change the colors below a picture carousel from the default blue? Currently I can only find it for the arrows. Thanks in advance!
You can either change the default accent color of the theme which changes the blue everywhere – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/accent-color/
Or you can use a little CSS:
body .wpex-carousel .owl-dot.active {
background: #000;
}

Hi! Is there a way to add the excerpt at the start of every blogpost (single). So I would show: Title – Meta – Excerpt – Featured Image – Post content.
Of course! You have 2 options:
- Create your custom post layout with the page builder – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGYuBjqkj8Q
- Or you can use some code in your child theme to insert a new “area” to your blog posts like this snippet example – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/single-block-blocks-filter-4/
Example code:
// Add new option to the customizer
add_action( 'wpex_blog_single_blocks', function( $blocks ) {
$blocks['excerpt'] = __( 'excerpt', 'total' );
return $blocks;
} );
// Add Excerpt output for the front-end
add_filter( 'wpex_blog_single_layout_blocks', function( $blocks ) {
$blocks['excerpt'] = function() {
echo wp_kses_post( do_shortcode( get_the_excerpt() ) );
};
return $blocks;
} );
