just purchased this theme and I get this error (Warning: POST Content-Length of 17278151 bytes exceeds the limit of 8388608 bytes in Unknown on line 0 The link you followed has expired.) please help. I have installed all required software on my laptop as localhost, if that helps.
Hi,
This is Aj the theme developer. Depending how you setup your localhost (MAMP, XAMP, other) a lot of the default PHP settings are fairly low.
This error happens if your post_max_size is very low. Total and all bundled plugins should run perfectly fine and recommend at least 32MB for your post_max_size. I would also recommend you make sure your memory_limit is at least 256 and your max_execution_time is set to 300.
It’s also highly recommended that your PHP version be 7.0 or greater.
If you still have issues after updating your localhost let me know!

Hi AJ. I’ve been trying multiple setting changes but cannot achieve stretching… At the aforementioned website, I am unable to stretch the pink Title block below the header so that it covers the full page and goes beyond the boxed content area. I have tried using a content Row, but then there is space between the header and the row, and the Title box at least eliminates that space. Is there a way to stretch the pink title box?
Hi,
It’s going to be very tricky to stretch the row outside of the boxed layout because the boxed layout has a fixed width (because it’s boxed). To stretch an element to the full window width that is inside a fixed width element requires javascript on site load and each time the browser is resized, it can be a bit complex to implement if you don’t know javascript.
You could use the full-width layout of the site then add a background to the inside area with some CSS. But your header will stretch so you would need to also tweak that. To be honest it makes more sense to keep the pink area boxed with the rest of the site. On a large monitor (like 30’‘) having a single stretched out section can look a bit strange
- AJ
Thanks for the info and perspective AJ. I think I will keep that pink area boxed instead of full width.
Hi AJ. I cannot find any settings (without looking at the style sheets) where I can change the padding/border/margin background color around images with captions. I would like to make the background of the captioned image at www.snc.care transparent so that the green page background shows through. Where can I do this?
Hi,
Yes, you won’t find built-in setting for absolutely everything since there are thousands of features if there was a setting for each thing the theme would be so big it would never load
To tweak some things you would need some CSS. Example:
/* Alter the caption styling to remove the border, background and padding */
body .wp-caption { border: 0; background: none; padding: 0; }
Adding custom CSS: http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/making-css-edits/
- AJ
Thanks again AJ. That worked perfectly.
Hi AJ. This comment is referring to site: www.snc.care When I choose a sticky header, the image turns to a white background after scrolling down. When I disable the sticky header, the image remains after scrolling, but it is enlarged and no longer fits the header container. How can I fix both options? I am using the Boxed layout.
I am seeing 2 header backgrounds currently defined one of which doesn’t seem to exist anymore – http://kinobayretreat.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/cropped-SNC-Header-updated-1.png
It seems there may have been an image set under Customizer > Header > General (theme option) but also under Customize > Header (based on the Core WordPress function). And the later no longer exists.
Can you go to the main Theme Panel and disable this option to test? – https://cl.ly/sUfN
- AJ
Hi AJ. Yes, disabling the “Header Image” in the Theme Panel eliminated the white header background on scrolling down. I guess I am still learning the abundant ways to make changes and recognizing any redundancies to account for. For the second option mentioned, the Customizer > Header > General (theme option) > Background Image Style needed to be changed from Fixed Center to Cover in order to prevent the header image from zooming in (stretching out) when the Sticky feature is disabled. I have decided to disable the Sticky Header for now. Thanks so much!
¯ Hello AJ,
I’d just like to tell you that I’m finally launching my freelance activity and its associated site – providing niche content to help companies work on their culture, hoping some will buy my inhouse workshop on this theme.
I’m so grateful to you
for having extensively helped me make this site – which is much better that I dreamed of when I started my project, in spite of my poor technical capabilities.
Not only do you nicely help solve all issues and questions, but you provide explanations and recommendations that have allowed me to learn and improve the site.
I hope you’ll come to visit France when you can, and I’ll then be glad to help you here in Paris.
Michel
https://culture-officer.fr(all in French, but I may add english subtitles to my videos, in case) _
Hey there,
I’m so glad to hear that and I’m excited for you
I know you’ve put a lot of hard work into your project. I wish you the best of luck and if I am ever lucky enough to visit France I will send you a message
- AJ
Hi AJ, I’ve sent several requests for help on an increasingly urgent issue via other channels. You usually give such prompt and awesome tech support that I’m surprised that you haven’t answered them. . . but I see that you look pretty active here. Would you like me to resubmit my questions here (I have the one emergency issue, and also one that’s less time-sensitive) or if there’s some better way of reaching you, please advise.
Hi William,
I just replied to your ticket about 3 hours ago (I did comments first before tackling tickets). I set your ticket to high priority as well. Let me know if you didn’t get it or if you have any pending questions.
- AJ
By the way, if you ever need to reach out to me quickly the comments is the best method
Thanks for filling me in. . . will go straight to Comments in the future! I replied to your ticket via email and am just posting this so you know to look for it in case there are any delivery issues. I’m on a time crunch at this point, so sorry for any duplication.
Hi,
Not seeing any reply yet – https://cl.ly/sUmV – once I get the reply it becomes bold and set to active. Depending on the email service you are using it may take some time. If you don’t hear back from me by tomorrow let me know. I’m keeping my eye out for this.
- AJ
weird, I’m using Gmail-powered mail, so it’s usually pretty fast. I just hit ‘reply’ to your email, right? don’t have to log back into the support site or anything?
Oh cool, we use gmail powered business mail as well
Yep, you just hit reply and we should get it. I thought it was instant but it’s possible Helpscout does have a delay.
We’ve gotten all your replies in the past, but it was coming from @artyoucantclick it looks like it’s now coming from @tuman.design. Is that correct?
- AJ
yep, that’s the right address, I rebranded my consultancy last year. in the interest of moving things along, I’ll open a new ticket, so here’s a heads-up so you know it’s coming. thanks for keeping this on your priority list. . . your dedication is much appreciated, as always!
I am going to reply to your new ticket right now. It was very long and didn’t have much time yesterday (I usually take Sundays to catch up with cleaning, cooking, shopping, etc).
Thank you for your patience,
AJ
No worries, I know the email is loooooong (sorry, I tried to simplify as much as I could while still being clear) and I don’t expect instantaneous answers over a weekend. We all have to live life sometime
I sent you a reply pretty much right away, please have a look
- AJ
Aaaaahhhhhhh, total satisfaction! The problem with Total is that just does so damned much, and has so many goodies tucked away into different places, that it’s hard to wrap one’s mind around all the amazing things that already exist as core components. I never knew that’s what Templatera is for. . . thought “that looks cool, probably should investigate one day to see what it does” but never got around to it. Anyway, using this adds one small step over the solution I’d envisioned, but it’s easy enough that the users on this staff will be able to handle it. I’m sure it’s possible to do what I’d envisioned, but for the sake of expedience, I think this’ll do just fine.
Thanks again, my good man, you always save the day, and I really appreciate it!
Always happy to help
If you did need some extra help with a more “dynamic” method let me know.

After doing a couple of updates, a graphic I have set as a fixed background has started flashing on and off. The graphic in question is at the bottom of the home page https://pacexpo.ca/ . It only seems to be a problem with Chrome, not Firefox. Any idea why?
Hi,
I’m not sure what you mean by “flashing on and off”. Here is what I see at the bottom of the page in Chrome – https://cl.ly/sUHY – I refreshed like 20 times and checked on 3 devices without issues and there aren’t any errors in the console.
Do you have any Chrome extension enabled that could be breaking it?
- AJ
The background picture ( the people sitting at tables) shows up and then every 3 seconds the screen just goes white where the picture was and then the picture comes back again. I know of no extension that might be breaking it, but I will check. I am also trying to get confirmation from others.
Hi,
Actually I was just now able to recreate the issue. I had to look at it for a while and I do see it flash and come back. Definitely looks like a Chrome bug with the fixed background-attachment attribute.
If you disable the fixed style is it ok? – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/fixed-row-background-images/ – fixed backgrounds require the browser to compute the correct placement of the image. I have no idea what would cause the issue in Chrome though.
On this demo it seems fine – http://totaltheme.wpengine.com/paris/ – it could be a bug with the min-height option used on the row and Chrome not being able to properly figure out the image placement. If you remove the row’s min-height and instead add a spacing module inside the row does it work?
- AJ
Glad you could see it. I was beginning to think it was just me. :>)
Yes if I disable the fixed background it seems to fix the issue, but not really what I want to do. Oddly it doesn’t seem to do it with the other fixed backgrounds above it.
I tried adding the space as suggested, but it still has the issue with the fixed setting.
If you change the image to something else, does it work?
And do you see the issue on my demo page? http://totaltheme.wpengine.com/paris/
Definitely it’s a Chrome bug and it could just be because it’s running out of processing power since you have quite a few large fixed backgrounds as well as a jQuery slider running all which take up resources. Or just a bug in their computations.
It could be something else though, I had a couple customers report this since the latest Chrome version. In some cases using a different image size or changing the format from png to jpg fixed the issue in other cases it didn’t.
I just checked again in Chrome and now I don’t see it: https://cl.ly/sURH – did you make edits already?
- AJ
Changing the image did not work.
I do not see the issue on the demo page.
Yes it must be a chrome bug as it did not exist before this last update.
It is a jpg file,but I will give a png a try.
I had had turned off the fixed background at that point so it wasn’t flashing.
I just noticed that this issue seems to be linked with the slider above it. Just before the pictures in the slider change, the fixed background goes blank. If I put my mouse on the slider so it doesn’t change, then the background does not go blank.
Also if I move the background above the slider it no longer flashes.
Ooohh, that’s very interesting. Thanks for the followup. I was able to recreate the issue on this demo – http://totaltheme.wpengine.com/nouveau/ – which also has a slider. Very strange, I’m going to do some tests to see what’s going on. It’s definitely a browser bug, but it’s possible there is a “hack” to fix it.
- AJ
Adding this CSS seems to fix it:
#wrap .bg-fixed-top,
#wrap .bg-fixed-bottom,
#wrap .bg-fixed { transform: translateZ(0); }
This forces the browser to create a new layer for the row with the fixed background and send rendering to the GPU for better performance. But while it fixes the bug with the slider it could cause some other issues so I am a bit hesitant to adding it in the theme by default….
- AJ
That does seem to fix it. Thanks for keeping at it. I will keep an eye out to see if it creates any other issues.
Weird…it did work when I tried myself in the browser. Did you clear your cache after adding the custom CSS?
- AJ
Sorry, I think you misread my reply. I said it “did” fix the problem. :>)
Oh, awesome!
Privacy Setting Update: This is a small thing, but when Privacy was added to Settings, it said it needed to update. I have clicked on everything I can find on that page. It’s linked to my privacy page. But it keeps showing a red 1 next to Settings because it thinks it needs to update something. How do I tell it it’s done? Thanks.
Hi,
This is something added by WordPress outside the scope of the theme. It does seem like a bug though because a few people have complained about it. Does clearing your cache help? If not, I wouldn’t worry about it, if the setting is saved correctly and the link is showing up at the bottom of your login page then you are good to go (that’s all the setting does).
- AJ
Can this theme be used with Wordpress.com or only self-hosted Wordpress?
I’ve had a few customers use it on premium versions of WordPress.com but because WordPress.com is coded very differently it doesn’t support things like the page builder or even the same Customizer functions. So it’s not advised.
If you are using WordPress.com you should only use themes purchased or downloaded from there any theme’s you find outside on other sites should be used with .org (self hosted is better anyway).
- AJ
Hello- How does the search function work? Is it universal throughout the site or limited to the page? Can it be limited to a page and how would I be able to achieve this?
Thanks for your help!
Hi,
The theme uses the native WordPress search which is a site wide search of all post types and pages.
I’m not sure what you mean by limiting the search to a single page though because if you want people to only find a specific page, what’s the point of a search, just add a link in the menu.
Now if you want the search to allow you to link to different “sections” of the page that’s impossible via the WordPress search that would require a fairly large javascript function integrated to the page.

Hi AJ,
Hope you can offer some assistance to the following queries as it would be much appreciated. Thank you
1 – Im using the following font Arial 16px #212121 across the site, where can i change this so each text box i create uses those settings?
The next questions relate to this page, https://new.culchethhigh.org.uk/school-curriculum/art-design-overview/
2 – ive added a widget with a side menu. how can I add padding above the menu? where is the menu styled?
3 – The toggle buttons, how can i change the colour of the button and also is it possible to add borders to the toggles?
Thank you
Sorry i posted the questions twice, i was logged into the wrong account
Hi,
No worries, thanks for the head up
1. If you want to use it across the whole site simply go to Appearance > Customize > Typography and alter your “Body” settings, this alters the main font used across the whole site.
2. You added a slider to the top of the page using the page setting if you want space below it you should use the bottom margin option – https://cl.ly/sVPd – this will add space under the slider so it doesn’t touch the content or sidebar area.
3. You can alter the default style of this toggle with some CSS. Example:
body .vc_toggle_square .vc_toggle_icon { background: #1f4687; }
That is to add a background. If you add a border without some extra tweaking it’s going to look a bit weird: https://cl.ly/sUTO – not really sure what you are looking for exactly.
There are thousands of elements in the theme so you aren’t going to find built-in styling options for every possible case, if so the theme would be extremely bloated. If you can’t find a setting then generally it means it’s time for some CSS

How to get only the first category add to the top post header top? I help myself use the code add_action( ‘wpex_hook_page_header_top’, function() and I can get category but It show all categories while I just want 1. Thank you so much.
Also I see the update of Font Awesome 5.1 which they say “Easier to upgrade”.
https://blog.fontawesome.com/font-awesome-5-1-409-new-icons-more-4c1e407fae49Hi,
- Total has functions to get the first category:
- wpex_get_first_term_link( get_the_ID(), ‘category’ ); – first category and link
- wpex_get_first_term_name( get_the_ID(), ‘category’ ); – just the name
- wpex_get_first_term_id( get_the_ID(), ‘category’ ); – just the ID if you want to get fancy.
- There is still problems updating from 4 to 5 design-wise. Well first to include their “update” compatibility requires loading extra javascript and CSS files but also many icons look very difference. For example the “angle-right” icon which is used in the theme by default in certain places like slider/carousel/pagination.
In the older version it was nice and thin but now it’s very thick – https://fontawesome.com/icons/angle-right?style=solid- https://fontawesome.com/v4.7.0/icons/
There are also some icons which have been removed and many customers have manually added icons to their site which will instantly break.
There is no real “benefit” in updating either the core script. I could add FontAwesome 5 as an alternative library when using functions like the Icon box. But having it as the core built-in icon set is not worth it, not only for the upgrading issues but it’s also A LOT bigger and will take longer to load. If all you want is a specific icon it’s best just to download the SVG and use it
- AJ
It work as expect ❤️
I got your point about the Font Awesome. Seem like the more beautiful are available in the Pro version. Actually have done that already but use the png which is smaller than SVG even though SVG is more quality but it just so tiny to get noticed. I also don’t like how big is it too while we only use a few. Are there available tools that we can customize our icon set for only what we need?
Thank you so much for you kindly support.
I am sorry. Thought it work but I forgot to mention that I only want it to work only on singular. I use the same code as I did before that show all categories but it not seem to work with function wpex_get_first_term_link( get_the_ID(), ‘category’ );
I use the echo which work fine but it also work on all post. Maybe I need the full snippets this time
Hi,
The full code would be something like this:
// Display category at the top of posts
add_action( 'wpex_hook_page_header_top', function() {
// Only display on posts, so if it isn't a post return.
if ( ! is_post() ) {
return;
}
// Display category
echo '<div id="wpthai-post-category">' . wpex_get_first_term_link( get_the_ID(), 'category' ) . '<div>';
} );
The original FontAwesome icon set is extremely small which is why it's loaded entirely on the site by default in style.css and is used for icons in the WPBakery page builder. I could integrate a system to choose only what you need loaded, but then it requires loading a separate file which means an extra request so it's actually slower even if the code itself is smaller.
I do think that in Total 5.0 I may remove FontAwesome from the theme and instead add a custom set of Total Icons used only for the design (like arrows used in pagination, slider, carousel, scroll to top and the meta icons like user, category tag and social icons). Then I could have FontAwesome 4 and 5 a options in the page builder for icon boxes, icons, etc. But again, this will require some updating on the user's side and double checking customizations if they previously used font icons in their design. That's why I am waiting for a big update like Total 5.0 that will be optional and include only new features/settings. ThemeForest is making more rules about what can and can't be added inside themes so for Total 5.0 there will be some bigger changes, for example all the extra page builder modules will need to be placed in their own plugin and the built in post types (portfolio, staff, testimonials) may need to also be done via their own plugin(s).
- AJ</div></div>
Hi AJ. The code didn’t work.
Dam my snippet got wrapped up in the text below..sorry about that. Dam ThemeForest, ha!
Also I’m an idiot I put is_post but that function was removed like 5 years ago, lol. I don’t even know why my brain went there, it should be is_singular( ‘post’ )
https://gist.github.com/wpexplorer/9a67543c3a68eb17229f09c186a7638dThat definitely works and I tested it locally.
- AJ
Excellent. It work now!
I did notice that as I used to success with is singular( ‘post’ ) but I just can’t figure it out. I will apply the course by the end of tonight to start with whatever to help me to understand all of this.
Thank you so much again.
-Have a good weekend.
You too !!
Hello. I had such a problem. When posting posts, the image that is the cover art of the entry is not displayed. Previously, such a problem nebylo. Updates may have affected. Please tell me what is the problem.
Tell me which template files are responsible for displaying images? Maybe I’ll try to update them.
Hi,
Can you double check to make sure the “Featured Media” block is enabled for your posts under Appearance > Customize > Blog > Single. Here: https://cl.ly/sVIf
The templates used to display images on posts are located under partials/blog/media – but the theme has advanced functions to load these files so messing with the actual file wouldn’t do anything. Most likely the images have just been disabled.
- AJ
I tried your suggested option, but the problem did not dare. I tried changing the template to another one and the photo in the publication is displayed. Activate again the Total template does not display the picture. Why then the old photos are displayed even on the Total template, if you add them to the record. New uploaded photos are not displayed. Here is a link for an example of a problem link https://vedawomen.com.ua/vrednye-komponenty-v-kosmetike.html I saw through the console google chrome I see an error GET https://vedawomen.com.ua/wp-content/uploads/-%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BC%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%BD%D0%B5%D0%BD%D1%82%D1%8B-%D0%B2-%D0%BA%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%BC%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B5-321x400.jpg 404 (Not Found). but the picture is uploaded to the server and it can be seen in the wordpress.
Hi,
It looks like the name of the image is “-кремроварения.jpg” which can cause issues because you can’t have a dash in the front of the name. If you rename the file does it work? Can you share a link to the image from the media library? https://cl.ly/sV3L
- AJ
Very weird, the name is being cut off – https://cl.ly/sVTK – but I downloaded your picture and tried on my local development installation and I didn’t have any issues – https://cl.ly/sUSg
Did you install any plugins recently or made any recent updates/changes to plugins or the server?
- AJ
Here is a video of my test: https://cl.ly/sVmV (so you can see I did actually try it)
I just thought of something…On my localhost I use the following in my .htaccess folder:
# uploaded files RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L]
Which is a WordPress fix. When removed the images do seem to break. If you add this on your server to your .htaccess file does it fix the issue?
- AJ
Hello, AJ! Your video made me go to Theme Panel – image size. There I saw that the height of the picture of the publication of the blog is set at 400. It turns out that the pictures were not displayed because of this parameter. Thank you very much!!!
Hi AJ!
Is there a snippet for changing a custom post type entry layout style? I´m now using “Event Organiser” -plugin that creates the CPT “Event”.
I use this to alter blocks: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/cpt-entry-blocks/ and it works really nice! In the Customizer > Blog > Archives & Entries I have set “Style” to “Left thumbnail” and this is the format I want for my Event archive/entries also.I tried this: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/custom-blog-style/ (also with replacing blog to event) but it did not work
Thanks!
Hi,
The issue with the left/right image format is that it requires specific layouts to work properly so there is no way to auto enable that for post types. However, it’s very easy with a little Custom CSS but it depends how the site is setup. Can you share an example archive so I can provide the CSS?
- AJ
Hi
I’m creating a new page (see above)
I’ve created two initial rows which I was expecting it to be full width, but they are not and I’m not sure why? am I missing something somewhere ?
Thank you
Chris
Perfect – Thanks AJ
Thanks AJ
Hello AJ,
I’ve just seen a kind of “Related posts” section at bottom of an article that allows horizontal “scrolling” to see many entries.
Do you know a way/plugin to achieve that please ?
Here : https://www.welcometothejungle.co/articles/bullshit-jobs-theory
Michel
Hi Michel,
I don’t know of any plugin but you can create something very similar using Total’s dynamic layout – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGYuBjqkj8Q – and a carousel module added to the bottom of the post via the related query argument – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/related-items-dynamic-template/
In my opinion though it’s just loading extra resources and slowing down the page for no reason. Most real visitors on sites don’t get that far down the page and if they do most won’t be scrolling on related items. Have you tried using a heatmap plugin or service for your site and seeing if people are even clicking on related items? If not, actually removing them may be best to speed up the site.
- AJ
Thank you AJ, I’ll follow your advice about related posts, as well as heatmaps, and will try dynamic templates one of these days for other usage
Michel
WPBakery Page Builder released a plugin update today. It can’t be automatically installed. Is there another process available to get this update?
WPBakery Page Builder has issued a update for the plugin. Since we can’t get it automatically, is there another method to get it before the next theme update. I’m having a issue with the phone mode, the inner column is not conforming with the responsive setting default. There is a large space at the bottom of a full width single image being used under the header. The row and the column is set with zero margins and no padding, but the inner column is not flexing. This produces an approx. 4” gap between that image and the image grid below it. I’ve googled the issue, but so far I have not found a solution.
Hi,
I’ll be pushing out a theme update shortly (maybe even today with the updated plugin). You can purchase your own license if you want the updates right away from them. But because I spend a lot of time testing the update and making sure there are no bugs and if they are bugs I don’t release the update until they are fixed you get that added benefit.
The spacing issue doesn’t look like something that was addressed in their latest update no one else has reported it and I don’t see the issue when testing locally. Can you share the page URL and let me know exactly where to look so I can see what’s going on? Or does it only happen in the backend while editing the page?
- AJ
Thank you for responding, I know that you are a busy man. I would never mind waiting for software that is bug-free. I’ve googled for days trying to figure this out or find a solution. You can see it on the front page (site view) in the WP Bakery front side edit mode. I have a full width image directly below the header. The spacing is fine between that image and the grid section below it until you get to either of the phone views; portrait or landscape. If you place the cursor over the space, you’ll see the bottom of the column for what I call the hero image. CSS Hero identifies it as the inner column wrap. I tried changing the viewport and margin settings among other things and I’m blank. I’m sure that it is something simple and obvious that I’m missing. That’s usually what happens with me. I can send you a temporary login but I don’t want to post it publicly.
Monica
Hi Monica,
I’ve done most the testing and finishing up the update so I can release it and push it out to everyone
If you want to send the logins please do so here, we have a private ticket system as mentioned in the docs and the Support tab above which can be accessed here: http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/
I have a support staff helping me over there so if you want me to personally look just request your ticket be assigned to me (AJ) at the top – I am the developer and so if there is a bug I can send you the fix right away.

None of the social sharing buttons from Jetpack are being shown! Switching to the default wordpress themes twenty-fifteen, -sixteen and -seventeen shows them but not this theme. Traffic through social media sharing is vital is it not?
Apologies – finally found that under the “Customizing > General Theme Options > Pages” the social share was deactivated even though I enabled it under the page editor. Bit of an annoyance, but solved.
Hello, I want to know if the text container width can be modified.
You can use the width option when editing the text element in the page builder like such – https://cl.ly/sVMj
But if you want to alter the global site width you can do that in the Customizer – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/customize-your-layout-widths/
