You can change the overlay color to darker color via Search stylekit inside the search element, or you can use this custom CSS code for changing the background color of search results:

.ajax_search_results .item_small {
    background: #666666
}

You can add this custom css code in Theme options > General > Custom Codes > Custom CSS field

For loading the language files in the child theme manually you should add this code in the functions.php file of your child theme:

add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'cdvz_load_child_language' );
function cdvz_load_child_language() {
    load_child_theme_textdomain( 'xtra', get_stylesheet_directory() . '/languages' );

and your language files name must be like this (for French language):

fr_FR.po
fr_FR.mo
