Can you create the “Digital Agency” demo site in Elementor?

Hi,

Thanks. I’ve forwarded your request to our guys.

Just to satisfy my curiosity: what’s wrong with the Block Editor (FSE) version? Gutenberg’s bad reputation from its initial launch? Personal preference? An established agency workflow?

I mean, I sometimes look at the code Elementor generates on the front end, and the HTML/CSS-coder part of my brain almost feels physical pain :)

Hi, the Block Editor is not as flexible as Elementor, and I find it a bit difficult to use. As a personal note, I purchased a yearly subscription for unlimited websites.

Hello,

I noticed that The7 v14.4.5 is now available, but this version is not listed in the The7 v14 changelog:

https://the7.io/changelog-v14/

Could you please let me know what changes or fixes are included in version 14.4.5?

Thank you.

Hi,

14.4.5 and 15.0.0.1 are both maintenance updates. We were ironing out small bugs in the theme update logic.

The week was hectic, and I did not post the changelogs in time. Sorry about that. I’ll do that on Monday.

Hi, I’ve had my website for years using the The7 theme, and it’s currently updated to version 14.4.5. I want to upgrade to version 15 and always stay up-to-date. Which plan should I purchase, and where can I do it? Could you explain what the upgrade entails? Thanks

One last question. If I purchase a subscription for version 15 for my website, will I be able to use the older version 14 for another website?

Upgrading to The7 15 is quite straightforward. You de-register your Envato purchase code, register the theme with our direct license key, and click the “Upgrade to The7 15” button.

The theme will install the update automatically and migrate all your settings. Needless to say, a full site backup is always advisable before any update.

Regarding the ThemeForest license, this can be a bit sketchy. If the purchase code has not been overused, the registration may go through. However, Envato’s licensing terms require one license per site. The license cannot be reused, even if the original site is offline.

I have a question. I have purchased your theme over 60+ times. I noticed that your ad stills says $39, there is a button that says $49.00, yet I was charged $59? What is the correct price. Also I saw some comments about limitations on new versions? Am I still going to be getting theme and plugin updates for The 7 going forward?

Hello,

Yes, we had to make several price changes after Envato increased its commission from 12.5% to 50%, on top of the $12 buyer fee it keeps. The theme description page has not fully caught up with those changes yet.

You can find all the details here: https://the7.io/update-policy/

ThemeForest now carries the legacy v14 of the theme. However, all ThemeForest purchases made less than 12 months ago are eligible for a free upgrade to The7 15 and free updates during that 12-month window, including bundled plugin updates.

It is important to note that websites you have already built with The7 14 will remain fully functional and will continue receiving security and essential maintenance updates.

To upgrade older websites to The7 15, we offer a direct The7 Unlimited plan for agencies, covering unlimited websites for $199/$249 per year: https://the7.io/pricing/

Since you have just made this purchase, I think it would make more sense to start the new website with the most recent version of the theme.

You may want to submit a refund request for the ThemeForest purchase: https://themeforest.net/refund_requests/new

And then purchase the direct license that best suits your needs.

Do i understand this correctly if we purhcased the template for $59 and I’ve using this theme for one of my client sites for about 9 years now, I can’t upgrad to V 15 unless I move to you SASS plans?

Hi,

Firstly, a very important distinction: The7 15 is NOT SaaS. Your site will remain fully functional and editable even after the license/subscription expires. We are also working on a way to deliver critical security updates even to customers whose licenses have expired.

Regarding your client’s site, you/they can choose to stick with The7 14. It will continue receiving security and essential maintenance updates. The7 15 is an opt-in upgrade. You can ignore it if you think you do not need it.

Hello!

If your license was purchased less than a year ago, you still can import a demo even with ver. 14. Otherwise, we recommend upgrading to our License Plans. https://the7.io/pricing/

Hi, can you please remove the information that I should update to version 15 which cannot be updated? Because I have automatic updates set up and I get error messages from all sites 3 times a day in my email.

Hi,
Thanks for the report. Forwarded to our dev team.

Well, if 14.4 will be legacy and maintained, why is it showing:

“You have version 14.4.4 installed. Update to 15.0.0.1.” ;p

Hi,

Because that’s how the WordPress update mechanism works. Essentially, if you are on v14, when a new v14 version is released, it will take priority over v15 in the update queue. Websites on v15 will ignore v14 releases.

This way, we ensure every website is up to date.

Hm, I don’t know guys. I hate subscription models. And the main reason for installing “The 7” – apart on being a great tool to create good looking modern websites – on many of my clients projects was the pricing model. I have mostly small businesses as clients which just need their website created one time and then running. So hopefully v14 updates will keep those websites working. But what about paid plugins like WPBakery? Will they also keep getting updates? If not, what about security risks?

I get the changing of the pricing model and I get, that you want/need to make money. But then create a new product under a new name and try to convince us to change to a subscription model – or try to sell new premium templates for additional fees, fine. But this way it feels a little shady. I bought into “The7” because it had no subscription and I don’t want to contact old clients now which I promised that there is no subscription fee to tell them otherwise… “if you want the newest and cleanest code please pay 50 $ yearly – yes, back in the day I promised you a one time fee for me and for the template and updates, but now…”. No.

If you feel now you need to make a change then do it for new clients, who can decide if they want to do it. But as an old license holder you basically stopped developing the product for me – yeah, I know, I get security updates, but I’m (or better my clients) getting less than what was the case the last few years.

Anyways, all the best for you, hope it gets you the money you need to keep on developing.

Hi,

Miroslav here, co-founder of Dream-Theme.

v14 will get security and maintenance updates. Plugins will be updated as well. That was our promise, and we intend to keep it.

Regarding subscriptions.

On one hand, yes, I hate subscriptions myself.

On the other hand, I remember the days when each new version of professional software, say Photoshop, required a new purchase, maybe with a small discount. Which makes sense, as software development requires serious investment. And “pay for every new version” was way more expensive.

Subscriptions are annoying, but way more predictable for both developers and customers.

Also, take our Unlimited plan: $199/$249 per year for unlimited sites. I mean, come on, for an agency, it’s a no-brainer. We see many agencies that stopped using The7 years ago because ThemeForest’s 1 site = 1 license model was simply too expensive, are now starting to use The7 again.

MrDave7

MrDave7 Purchased

Hi Miroslav, thank you for answering.

I’m a single designer, Websites is just one thing of what I do and usually I do 1-2 projects a year with “The 7”. It’s most of the times a one-time fee – I charge my clients for the creation of the website and they update themselves (if need be). So no ongoing cost for them – no ongoing income for me. Meaning I would now need to contact them and tell them, they need to pay if they want the latest and greatest especially for the plugins they’re using, since those won’t get security updates. I even switched some clients from different themes to The7 during the last years because I thought that’s the best package and lifetime one-time-purchase.

My point is that when purchasing I felt like I was promised something different than what you’re doing now. That was one of the main reasons to pick The7 and not other themes. For new clients I can always factor in ongoing costs and yes, maybe in 2-3 years I will have enough clients to pay for the yearly 200 so older projects are covered then as well but for now it just sucks. So I think it would have been better to give a bigger discount for people who have bought several “The7” licenses or give a longer grace period for long-time customers. Like first year free for V15 if you have 5 or more licenses or everyone who has an old license can switch to V15 and has a 12-month grace period before having to decide to pay the subscription or stick to just security updates.

And lastly: now I’m or my clients are getting a bunch of email reminders that Wordpress couldn’t update the theme from 14.4.5 to 15 and they should check if everything is alright. Yes, it’s just a standard Wordpress email, but for some clients it’s something they’re not used to (and for me it’s annoying).

Thanks for explaining the situation.

Just to clarify one important point: existing websites can remain on The7 14 and will continue to receive security and essential maintenance updates. Your clients do not need to purchase The7 15 simply to keep their existing websites secure.

The failed automatic-update emails are an unintended side effect of the transition to The7 15. We are working on the update delivery logic so websites that are not eligible for The7 15 are not repeatedly offered an update they cannot install. It will take time though.

We considered longer grace periods and additional discounts for previous buyers, but ultimately chose the current model because it is the one we believe can sustain The7’s continued development.

Like many other long time users of the7 I am very disappointed by this change, but understand the need for it given the market pressure.

My issue is that I have an update notification “You have version 14.3.3 installed. Update to 14.4.4.” and when I try to update I get an error that says I have to pay for the 14.4.4 update: “An error occurred while updating The7: Download failed. Payment Required”. If my understanding is correct, updates to V14 should still be free, correct?

I have 12 clients using this theme and they are all a bit upset at the moment. Would love to be able to tell them that they can still get security updates for v14 as before.

DT-Support Author Team

Hello!
Could you please try to update this way https://support.dream-theme.com/knowledgebase/how-to-update-the7-within-version-14/ It should help.

Hi,

I have one question because I still don’t fully understand the licensing model.

If I buy a The7 15 single-site license for $59, how long will I receive normal theme updates?

Will I continue to receive all 15.x updates after the first year, or will I have to renew the subscription every year just to keep receiving regular updates?

This is the point that concerns me the most.

With every other ThemeForest theme I use (Avada, Bridge, WoodMart, etc.), after the support period expires I simply lose support, but I continue to receive theme updates because I already purchased the license.

If, after one year, I must pay again just to receive normal updates, then this is fundamentally different from the standard ThemeForest model.

Could you please clarify exactly what happens after the first year?

Thank you.

Hello,

If you stick with v14, it will continue receiving security and essential maintenance updates.

If you upgrade to v15, you will receive updates for 12 months from the ThemeForest purchase date. Critical security updates will be pushed even if the license expires.

Regarding the other themes you’ve mentioned, if you look closely, many of them have announced that new generations will be available outside ThemeForest as subscriptions. After the recent Envato changes, we, authors, are all in the same boat in this regard.

Hello,

Thank you for your clarification.

However, I have another issue that doesn’t seem to match what you explained.

I have a client running The7 version 12.10.0.1 with a valid ThemeForest purchase code. When I try to update the theme from the WordPress dashboard, the update fails with:

“Download failed. Payment Required.”

Since you stated that versions prior to v15 should still be able to receive updates (at least up to the latest v14 release), this behavior appears incorrect.

Could you please confirm:

Should v12 users be able to update to the latest v14 without purchasing v15? If yes, why is the updater returning “Payment Required”? Is this a licensing issue on your servers or a bug in the update system?

Thank you.

Hi,

Yes, there was an issue with the router script. It did not recognize older theme versions and returned a 402 error. The issue is fixed now.

When you are ready, please make a backup and try updating again.

A word of caution, though. Going from 12.10.x to 14.4.x is quite a jump. Something may break in the process. Please do not forget to make a full backup. If there are any issues, please get in touch with our support at https://support.dream-theme.com

Hope this helps!

Hi,

The7 14 remains maintained: we will be releasing security and essential maintenance updates for it.

However, if you want to move those websites to v15, you can do so by purchasing a direct license: https://the7.io/pricing/

Whichever you decide, your sites will continue to work.

Technically, yes, you can absolutely do that.

But it will effectively cut off ALL updates until a real The7 version above 15.4.4 comes out. With our current release schedule, that is like 6-8 months away. This is a very risky move, considering that WordPress 7.1 is coming within a month and all other plugins will be updated as well.

So before doing that, you must understand that it most probably will break your website during the next major WordPress update. So I strongly advise against it.

How to hide the v15 update in WordPress? I want only 14.x updates! Thank you.

Understood.

The7 15 is currently being offered as the available major upgrade in WordPress Updates. There is no separate setting to hide only that update while continuing to receive future The7 14 maintenance updates. That’s not how our infra works. At least now.

You can simply ignore The7 15. The7 14 will continue receiving security and essential maintenance updates when they arrive.

can you please fix this, that the 15 update is not showing when Im not opt in?

Hi,
Thanks!

Forwarded your request to our dev team.

I am very disappointed with this change, especially as a long-time customer with older The7 licenses. I have been using the theme for years and have already built several websites around it.

I can understand introducing an annual subscription for new licenses, provided that this is explained clearly before purchase. However, applying this model to existing customers and legacy licenses feels unfair. Customers who bought the theme under the previous conditions should be grandfathered in, or at least receive a permanent legacy plan, security updates, or a substantial discount.

What concerns me most is that new customers can still buy The7 on ThemeForest without it being made sufficiently clear that, after the first year, they may need to pay a recurring annual fee through a different system to continue receiving the latest updates. This should be displayed prominently before purchase, not discovered afterwards.

The renewal is also annual only, with no affordable monthly option, which makes it especially difficult for freelancers and small businesses managing more than one website. In my case, two websites would mean paying for two annual subscriptions simply to keep receiving updates.

This change damages the trust of loyal customers. I hope The7 reconsiders the treatment of existing licenses and offers a fair solution for long-time users.

Look, my first reaction would probably be not dissimilar to yours.

However, when you calculate how much a new generation of the theme costs to develop, the question of the sustainability of the ThemeForest model becomes apparent.

As for a loyalty program for old buyers, we already offer the first year at a 20% discount. We also deliberately kept our prices as low as possible because we understand that the first v15 buyers will be original ThemeForest buyers, and we wanted to give them the best possible deal we could afford.

New buyers also benefit from these low prices.

Regarding ThemeForest, marketplace sales have dropped almost threefold over the last three months for nearly all authors. Envato also increased its commission from 12.5% to 50%. Add the $12 buyer fee that goes exclusively to them.

So it’s not that we got greedy or something. This is us making the business sustainable after these Envato changes.

Each subscription purchase benefits both v14 and v15 users because it gives us the resources to keep both actively maintained.

It’s also important to note that other major authors have announced similar moves.

Thank you for explaining the situation in more detail. I was not aware of the full impact of Envato’s new 50% commission or the decline in marketplace sales. I now understand that this change is intended to make The7’s development sustainable and is not simply an attempt to charge existing customers more.

I also appreciate the confirmation that The7 14 will continue receiving security and essential maintenance updates, so existing websites and ThemeForest licenses will remain operational.

However, this still does not fully address the position of long-term customers. Many of us purchased The7 with the expectation that “lifetime updates” meant continued access to the evolution of the product, not being permanently limited to an older major generation while future development moves behind a separate annual subscription.

I understand that developing The7 15 required significant investment, but loyal ThemeForest customers also helped build the success and reputation that The7 has today. A one-time upgrade option, a permanent loyalty discount, or special legacy conditions would be a fairer recognition of that contribution.

I am not questioning your right to introduce a new licensing model for future purchases. My concern is that existing customers should not be treated in exactly the same way as entirely new customers.

I appreciate your detailed response, but I still believe the transition for long-term customers could and should be more generous.

This comment is currently being reviewed.

I’m on 14.4.4. Why is it showing version 15.0.0. as normal update? I want to stick on 14.4.4. Can I choose update paths?!

That was not my question. I see update to version 15. I don’t want to see this. I only want to see updates for version 14. I don’t want to update to version 15 these old sites. I want to hide the update to version 15 in wordpress. HOW?

The v15 upgrade notice is part of the The7 dashboard. If you don’t want to see it, you can hide it using custom CSS targeting that element.

All my WordPress Sites are showing v15 update IN WordPress Updates! not only in The7…. it is there as normal update.

As i have 22 licenses a reasonable amount of which are old clients that are hosted elsewhere. So this is just going to generate a pile of work for me to handle when they start emailing and calling.

Hi,

> this is just going to generate a pile of work for me to handle when they start emailing and calling.

Hopefully, it will not. They will continue receiving v14 updates as normal. No additional actions required.

BTW, our new Unlimited license is designed to address exact issues developers like yourself encountered with old TF licenses: a single code, unlimited sites, and it costs about as much as three ThemeForest licenses: https://the7.io/pricing/

Hi, Reading about the newest version of The7 in this thread, I was reading this page in the Envato Market policy and there it clearly states:

Regardless of whether you have item support or not:

If an author releases an update, it will be available for all previous buyers to download for free. This is the link to that page with the details: https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/205923460-Purchasing-Supported-and-Unsupported-Items

To my opinion, as long as The7 can be purchased on Themeforest, updates of the theme should be free of charge. Don’t you agree?

Hi, I understand your answer, but I am reffering to the Envato Market policy not your own policy. How will I be able to update the theme in the future when it is already showing me errors when I want to update?

There was a technical issue with the router script that decides which version of the theme (v14 or v15) it should provide. It was fixed two hours after launch. Now everything works as it should.

As for Envato Market policy, The7 15 is essentially a new product under same branding. Envato policy is not applicable to it.

I think the Envato policy is always applicable :-) And if it is a new product, then maybe it is better to sell it under a different name. Or sell it via another channel/platform then Envato. Anyways, thanks for solving the technical issue. Hopefully my message to update to 15.0.0 will disappear in my dashboard.

Update for anyone following this thread: there is now a second surprise for existing license holders.

A notice has appeared in WP admin announcing The7 15, stating that The7 14 “is now a legacy version and will only receive security and essential maintenance updates.” Compatibility updates for future versions of PHP, WordPress, WooCommerce, Elementor and WPBakery now require a direct plan at $39 for the first year, then $49/year per site ($199/$249 unlimited).

The author’s official update policy page goes further. It now defines Envato purchases as including “updates until 12 months from the purchase date”. This item was sold for years as a one-time purchase with lifetime updates, and until recently this listing said, word for word, “No recurring membership or other hidden fees!” That promise is being rewritten after the fact into a 12-month window.

The same page also states that ThemeForest update delivery depends on the Envato API and that once that API is discontinued, even The7 14 security updates will stop. So the remaining “lifetime” coverage has a pre-announced end date outside anyone’s control. Meanwhile, the same page confirms that lifetime licenses bought directly from the author keep lifetime updates including The7 15. Identical promise, two classes of customer, and the ones who bought here on ThemeForest are the ones cut off.

To summarise for prospective buyers: in the space of a few weeks, licenses sold with “lifetime updates” and “no hidden fees” have had the pre-made websites library remotely disabled after 12 months, updates redefined as a 12-month window, and future compatibility moved to a $49/year subscription. Factor that into your purchase decision. If you are an existing buyer affected by this, report it to the Envato Help Team with your license certificate and a copy of how this listing was worded when you purchased.

A few factual clarifications for anyone reading this:

1. Existing ThemeForest licenses remain valid for the sites/projects they were purchased for, and existing websites will continue to work. The7 14 will continue receiving security and essential maintenance updates.

2. Lifetime access to the online pre-made websites library was never advertised or included with the license. We consider 12 months library access sufficient to build a website. Anything already imported remains intact and continues to work.

3. The7 15 is a new major generation, built on a new architecture and distributed under our direct licensing model. ThemeForest purchases made less than 12 month ago include complimentary upgrade to The7 15 and updates within these 12 months. The7 15 is an opt-in upgrade.

4. Direct lifetime licenses are being honored according to the explicit terms under which they were sold.

5. The reference to the Envato API simply explains that ThemeForest purchase verification and update delivery depend on Envato’s infrastructure. It is not a shutdown date set by us.

The complete policy is available here: https://the7.io/update-policy/

5parky Purchased

Thank you for the clarifications. Three observations and I will leave the thread here.

1. You state that “direct lifetime licenses are being honored according to the explicit terms under which they were sold.” I ask only that the same principle be applied to ThemeForest licenses. The explicit terms under which they were sold are the item description at the time of purchase, which for years promised lifetime updates, presented the pre-made websites library as an included feature with no time limit disclosed anywhere, and stated, word for word, “No recurring membership or other hidden fees!” Honoring the terms of sale for one group of customers while rewriting them for another is the entire issue here.

2. “We consider 12 months library access sufficient” is a view formed in 2026. No 12-month term appeared on this listing when these licenses were purchased. What a seller later considers sufficient cannot redefine what was sold.

3. License validity was never in question, so point 1 answers an objection nobody raised. The issue is the removal of advertised functionality from licenses already paid for, and the conversion of “lifetime updates” into a 12-month window followed by a $49/year plan.
