And I guess what would really help is an extra input field for extra classes when setting up the full width sections. This way we could recreate a call to action style and by applying the class to the full width section we could replicate the same look over and over again. It is also easier to manage and customize texts, headings and images of specific sections this way.

I noticed that not all Google Webfonts can be selected within the fonts menu. Can you integrate all of them? Or how can I for example add Source Sans Pro to the select drop down fields within the font menu?

The fonts I included were the top google fonts and had to be hand selected because I set up the other select field for font-weight that changes based on the selected font. If you add another font into the system you would also have to specify what weights are available etc. Rather than add into the options panel itself, it would be much easier to just grab the google font you want to use and include it manually by pasting their link into the header.php file. Then you could just reference the font family as needed in the style.css file.
Ok I can do that, but how could I disable the inclusion of your header code for the fonts then, because I do not want to load my fonts and your fonts at the same time.

Hey, a great feature I think would make Salient just that little bit better is the Font Awesome Icons on the menu, I tried doing the CSS Code for icons on the menu and it came out bugged with a circle and a tiny icon aligned wrong.
So, yeah, Icons on the menu could be pretty cool

How to make the single post full width ?

you would have to open your single.php file, remove the sidebar and change the main post area to a span_12 div. Or you could also just assign the blog full width layout in your blog options tab – but that would make both the posts page and single page full width.

Just a quick question. I’d like to purchase this theme but I’m not sure I’d be able to customise it to fit my needs, as I don’t really need to use portfolio items. I want my homepage to link out to various different blog posts. I’ll try and be as clear as possible…
Would it be possible to customise the homepage to have a carousel of recent blog posts instead of portfolio items? If so, is it possible to have an short extract from that blog post underneath the image in the carousel?
As well as that, I’d love to have carousels for blog posts from certain Wordpress categories, ie, a “popular posts” carousel and/or a “featured country of the month” carousel. It doesn’t have to be done from the wordpress categories—I’d be happy to manually select the blog posts to appear.
I’m just trying to think about the best way to go about this as I don’t want to buy the theme and find it’s not possible. Say, for the “popular blog posts” carousel I’d like to implement.. Would I create a portfolio page and have the specific portfolio items linking to different blog posts? Or, would I be able to customise the carousels so the images link to various different blog posts?
I’d be happy to pay for development if this isn’t something you currently offer too!

Currently there is indeed a recent posts shortcode, but you can not specify the categories for it to display from – It will pull from all. If you need the theme to do this is would indeed require some custom development, I myself can not undergo it because I am super swamped. However, I do have have a developer I send work to for custom salient mods.
And I forgot even more:
9. Can you make the testimonial slider autostart on load like the client slider?
10. How hard would it be to include a layered slider where we can animate different images for one slide?

I really like your theme. But I wanted to ask a couple of questions before I buy. Hope you don’t mind.
1. Does the theme also include stuff like Dropcaps, alert boxes and so on?
2. Is the theme ready to be translated into other languages?
3. When adding the recent portfolio shortcode, can we decide how many columns and what portfolio category we want to show and do these columns then resize accordingly?
4. The slider that is shown on the homepage – can I show that slider on any page I want? I guess it is just assigning a specific template right?
5. Can I change the sitewide call to action on a per page basis as well, because I guess it makes sense to have different call to actions on different pages?
6. Instead of the font awesome icons within the circles can we also put numbers there? For some reason I cannot find numbers within font awesome, but it would be awesome to have circled numbers for sequences.
7. Will it support the other available post formats (like chat) once WordPress 3.6 is released?
8. And last but not least is it possible to have the icons in white on an accent or extra colored background in a circle (which is basically the hover look)?
I guess that is it for now.

Hey Nehalem! That’s certainly a long list of questions 
1. All of the shortcode elements are visible from the demo in the elements page – there are no dropcaps or alert boxes but there are 19 other ones
2. Yes.
3. Currently you can only have a 3 column recent posts carousel – If you need to change that you would have to alter the css and html markup.
4. Yes, you can assign it on any page but it will always show all of your slides. Therefore it can only essentially be used on one page.
5. You can basically create your own call to action sections with the new full width sections and have them anywhere you want on any page.
6. You would have to take my styling for the circles and apply it to your own custom element which you could put numbers in. Again, this is a mod and you would need to feel comfortable with css.
7. Yes, but WordPress 3.6 dropped support for the post format UI (just fyi)
8. Yes, there is a style for this you can select when adding your icons.

i’ve got a little problem sinds i updated the theme. the responsive part dous not work anymore…
before updating, i made a backup of my own altert version of the theme and the original Salient theme…
The wierd thing is, that if i upload my own or the first salient the responsive works perfectly. But as soon the new salient hits the dek it cant show the tablet or mobile css.
After deleting the intiere theme and instaling it all over i can only think that there must be somting wrong whit the theme.. but i think i must have red somthing in the comment section about that.. And you guys would never offer a update whit problems like this…
Any ideas what might be the problem?
i can’t imagine that any of my alterations i dit earlier couse this. becouse i cleant the whole theme… and instald it fresh

You just need to activate the responsive design option in your theme options panel (it became an active option a few versions ago).

Haha no problem, sorry about the confusion! If you were a new user with no salient information in your database, it would have been automatically on but upgrading users have to be consciously aware of it and active it.

Do you know of any way to search the comment section? Quite often I find resolution to my issues by scouring forums or comments however in this case I don’t know of any way to search all 58 pages your comment section.

I like the theme very much. Great job! Small question: I added my own copyright line to the footer using the theme option, but it doesn’t override the standard copyright. You can view the website here http://82.150.137.235/spelt/ to see what I mean. The second part (after the second© symbol) is my custom input.
Is there a way to hide the standard text without modifying the theme files?

The beginning of the copyright text is placed through code in the footer.php file for convenience. It uses PHP to always keep the most up to date year and simply displays your site name after that – two things that most users would always want. It seems you have typed the same thing after that so why not just delete the first part of your custom copyright text and let it be generated for you? This way you won’t have to change the year manually ever.
If you would still prefer to change type it in yourself, you would have to delete it in the footer.php code unfortunately sine there’s no way to target those few words with css to hide them.

I can’t see your URL can you please verify that it’s correct?
1. If the icons aren’t loading for you then that could be caused by a few things so I would need to take a peek to help.
2. Google fonts are loaded in a different way than the icons – they’re added directly from google’s api, hosted on their server so if those also aren’t working for you there’s probably a bigger issue at play.
3. When did IE10 start not working? Did it start happening after you installed a plugin or something else that you can pinpoint to a specific time? Again, it will be easier to diagnose when I can see the site

Amazing theme guys, great work. I remember seeing someone say that this site had awesome SEO but I can’t seem to find any settings for this. Even with yoast installed my site doesn’t show in google.

Hey Pete,
The site’s code was built with html semantics in mind, using tags appropriately so that you end up with clean code. Some SEO things are taken care of by default as well right out of the box so you could technically get by without a plugin, but using a plugin like Yoast or All in one seo is definitely not a bad idea.
However, there are many other things that come into play with getting in google/high ranked in google. Using the theme mixed with a plugin like yoast will essentially do everything you need like supply the search engine with clean valid code, meta tags, descriptions, correct page titles etc. But there’s still other variables in getting high ranked. If you’re saying your site won’t appear at all, even when searching its name directly than your site hasn’t been crawled yet. Have you submitted your URL to google? Have you checked to make sure the option for “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” is off in Settings > Reading?

The clients carousel shouldn’t have a background color at all actually. Do your images themselves have a background color or are you using an earlier version of the theme?
I’m using the most recent version. I have the home extended layout the logo’s themselves have no background but the full width bar behind them is dark grey. (it’s the same on the demo)
Oh, I thought you were saying the logo area itself was a different color than the full width background.
— In that case, to change the full width background color you can simply alter the attribute for background_color right on the full width shortcode itself. You should see this on the end of the full_width_section shortcode:

First of all, great theme, and great support and video tutorial. I keep going exploring all of your doc (and the pdf is huge !) but I think I’ve experienced a bug on ipad (and I think other touch gestures device :
when I used the “recent work” shortcode on the home page (like you did in the demo), the potfolio thumbnail image isn’t “clickable” like in the portfolio page. So the green background doesnt appear, neither the “Watch” or “More details” button.
If you need, I could send you a short video of it if my english is not clear enough
Another bug is the m4v movie (self hosted) embeded in the home slider : with yours video on the salient demo or mine, when you play it inside the slider (still on the ipad), the video reduce by the half of its size, and play in a very little window. Any idea ?

A last bug I encounter today : when embeding vimeo iframe in the portfolio, I get a little black space top and bottom of the video (you can see it in the lightbox and in the specific portfolio page. Strange because I use the good 16/9 ratio (and the one given by the “share” fonctionnality on the vimeo website). An idea ? (if you want to see it : lapupille.fr/v3 look for the RTE portfolio for example.
Can you tell me the video size you recommend (you use) for your vimeo portfolio ?

The easiest way to do that would be to write what you desire as the text that appears of the left and just hide the bar percentages all together. Add this to your custom css box:

If you’ve imported the sample data from the most recent version of the theme you should have both the pages home – extended and home – basic in your content. Are you sure you’ve imported the latest dummy data file?

There is a shortcode for displaying most recent posts… i need to show posts from a specific category on a page. Is there any way to do that?
There is a shortcode for displaying recent posts, but you can’t choose the category as of now. Perhaps an option for that will get added in a future release

I can’t really see how i’m going to be able to update the theme since there’s around 2700 lines of css added in and around various files.. although i usually bung it at the bottom so i can paste it back in.. Any chance next update you can list which bits in the css files have been changed? then i can adjust the lines that have changed..

After I embed a youtube into one of the home slider item, you will find that part of the youtube preview will freeze and broken, that piece of broken will then bring and appear into another slide forever.

Please supply me with a URL so I can check that out real quick..As the theme mentions, iframe video embeds work worse than self hosted ones because they’re much harder to control so it’s recommended you go the self-hosted route if possible. However, what your describing shouldn’t happen under normal circumstances so that’s why I want to see it
