Sorry to bother you with yet another newbie question. How do I declare the language of my site/pages? Is it an option I can select? Or do I have to manually insert some HTML?

Hey Adrian!
You need to translate the site using the included .po file. I recommend you use a plugin like http://wordpress.org/plugins/codestyling-localization/ or even WPML if you need it to be multilingual.

Nope, not looking to translate the site but I ran it through a SEO checker thing and they said its better if my site ‘declared’ the language it was in, i.e., for me, ‘EN’. Is there somewhere I can do that? Thanks! Loving the new upgrade by the way!
The language attributes are already in the html tag as they should be. If you open the header.php file you’ll see this:
<head <?php language_attributes(); ?>>
Which is the WordPress way to to dynamically insert the language the user is using for his site. If you then inspect the source code of your site in a browser you should see that turns into
<head lang="en-US">

Hi! Thank you for this wonderful theme and all the tuts that you carefully included. 
I have a q. Is it possible to add MORE than ONE portfolio page. ie: Portfolio1 with x number of pages, Portfolio2 with y number of pages, etc. and all propagate under the “PORTFOLIO” tab in the admin dashboard.
Currently, only ONE portfolio is in the tab and when you add pages, it adds to that page. Even if you were to say create a portfolio2 page and use the portfolio theme how do you change the contents of it (as it is pulling info from the original say portfolio1 template)?

You can assign specific categories to your portfolio pages thus making each portfolio page unique if you want. You’ll see the box to assign categories under the Page Attributes box when editing a page that has the portfolio layout assigned. Here’s a screenshot: http://i41.tinypic.com/iqvvvp.jpg

Yes, that is possible. 
so how do i do it? becos even if i created say a “LOGO” page with a portfolio template, it wouldn’t show up on the PORTFOLIO tab. so i can’t add new pages to this LOGO page and the actual logo page only has the pages similar to the original portfolio page.
also: i happened to just browse my site on my iphone and only the shortcode and text appear. the site is fine on an ipad. (next to the url tab – it says “reader”) why is this so?http://iblos3om.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/img_0343.png
nvm about the portfolio tab question. I finally understand – even though it doesn’t show up on the PORTFOLIO tab, just by simply assigning the category you have essentially created a new portfolio. thanks.

I’m glad you solved your first query meic01! As for the iphone issue, it appears from the look of that image that your hosting company might have a mobile redirect in place where they are essentially hijacking your WordPress install and using their own “mobile friendly” theme. Please contact them about it and tell them to turn that off.

I found your work a few weeks ago, and have been researching loads on what I am after. I have to say looking through your videos, comments here, and proper support, I am very impressed by your responses, and how you continue to develop this theme going forward. I am going to purchase your theme, but I have a few questions first. 1-3 would be nice to haves, but 4 is critical for my site.
1. Portfolio index, can the images be displayed at their own aspect rations? Can this be sorted in a masonry style?
2. Portfolio index, can they be sorted by popularity?
3. Pages, using columns, can I have a background that bleeds to full width, e.g. red from left hand edge of screen to 2/3 column, and last 1/3 column blue?
4. Do you foresee any WooCommerce problems with extensions working? I need to use this extension with the shop http://docs.woothemes.com/document/name-your-price/

Sorry for the delay – I was hard at work on Salient 1.9!
1. Yes, but it would require some modifications to the files.
2. This would require some custom development.
3. You could do this only by using a background image in the fullwidth section that extends those colors.
4. I have not personally tested with any WooCommerce extensions but I’ll tyr and check that one out soon and report back to you!
Hi Nectar, I decided yesterday after commenting to buy the theme anyway, as I liked it so much! Thanks for your answers, I will purchase the WooCommerce extension and see how it goes, got a big list of things to work on for now though.

Right now you can toggle the use of caption animations which comes on by default and you and you can also configure how long each slide takes to rotate. All of these options can be setup in the home slider options tab in the theme option spanel
Hey, love this theme but i’m having a few problems trying to achieve a specific type of clothing gallery. We aren’t using this for e-commerce but want to showcase different styles we carry under each designer name. Alternatively we want to link to the styles under categories like “Grad” “Wedding” “Party” as well.
I need each style to have it’s own description as well while still being grouped with the other styles of that specific brand or category. Is this something I’m going to completely have to customize?

Sorry for the late reply – I was hard at work on v1.9!
I’m glad you got the portfolio section figured out As for your remaining questions:
1. You can edit that wording in the search.php file located in the root of the theme directory.
2. The back to top button is hidden on mobile devices because using the fixed position does not work well and glitches out when scrolling. I will look into alternative approaches in a later update though
Hi, I updated Salient and have now the latest version. Still love it, but today I recognized, that when I resize the browser-window, the header is going to be longer and longer (the height) so it covers the most of the slider display. Today I put Facebook like Button in the widget-section, so I thought, maybe it is not compatible, so I removed the FB script-code temporary and tryed it out again, but the problem was still there, so I put the facebook script back in the header.php The URL to the website is: http://www.orangeundpink.de After refreshing the browser window the header goes back to the right position. I use chrome Version 29.0.1547.57
So now, I don’t know what to do. Could you help me kindly?

This is a specific bug in your setup as I have never seen anything like it before. Are you sure you have modded any of the theme files and it’s not a plugin conflict?

So I tried to deactivate the plug ins, but it wasn’t the problem. I found the Problem: for the facebook button I should include xml namespace:
<html xmlns:fb=”http://ogp.me/ns/fb#”> so that was the problem. I deleted that and the salient is as pretty as always :))))))

Hey friend! The site is disabled for the public and I don’t have the authority to take it out of Maintenance Mode. Can you show an example of a YouTube post on your demo? It’s just a black background where the video should be.

For me it’s happening on the masonry grid preview images for YouTube only: http://themenectar.com/demo/salient/blog/blog-masonry-fullwidth/
There are no Youtube embeds on the demo, just Vimeo ones but it should be the same behavior. I did also test with Youtube embeds locally and I can not see what you are with them not loading. Checked in FireFox and Chrome..what setup are you using?
Can you add a YouTube video blog post to the demo? That would explain what I am experiencing. It’s not happening on a single post. It’s where the post thumbnail normally goes, the vimeo and youtube video shows instead. Vimeo works great… YouTube doesnt. :-/ I’ve tested Firefox and Chrome on Mac and PC.
Swapped the live demo’s Vimeo video with a Youtube version of it. Still loads fine – Please let me know once you’ve seen it so I can switch it back to Vimeo

Hey Peter, you need to set one of the home layouts to your home page in the “Page Attributes” box. Then you need to set that page as your “Front Page” in Settings > Reading.
Hi, first of all – great theme for someone who’s never touched Wordpress before! I’ve tweaked just about everything I could, and changed the background color to dark, but I still have a few color issues that I can’t seem to fix for or find a solution to here. Namely – bright while elements that I can’t find any way to control the colors of: 1) The two little arrows (left + right) on the recent works carousel. It’s weird that the arrows on the portfolio pages themselves look correct. 2) On the Portfolio thumbnail page, the background of the text box below the thumbnail. 3) Divider line colors 4) The background color of the progress bars 5) The background color of the toggle panels

on the buttom over our client list there is a line with Recent Post. This is added by Nectar Shortcode: [recent_posts title_labels=”true”]
The red text ”/ ALLE BEITRÄGE” should redirect you to all postings – but it directs always to “home”. Is there any menu to edit this? If not – in which php can I change it? I figured out that I can manage it if I use the “Home – Recent Post” template by editing the template-home-2.php, but then is my clientlist above the recent post. If i choose template “Home – Slider Only” the code seems to come from nowhere

Hey Robb,
there hasn’t been any responsive code in the header for many versions. If you still have that, then it’s time to update . The only css code that lives in the header are the dynamic styles for theme options such as colors you choose etc. If you’re curious why they are in the header it’s because their values are created with php variables.

That must be it as I see the demo doesn’t have the code like you said. The generated CSS from the dynamic PHP file is fine, I was just shocked when I saw how many lines of code were in the header.

It will most likely require some tweaking. A possible conflict I see if that they are using the same lightbox I have in the theme so that might have some conflicting styles.
Is it possible to add images in the home-page slider, just like with the video option and change the outline of the image (or video, as in the demo of the theme) to the right (i.s.o. to the left)?
Hey larslenselink! You can technically place a raw html img inside of the video embed box and it will display. The only thing you can’t do without custom development is align that img to the right – there’s no option for it so if you want to do it you’ll need to create all of the css rules.

When using a shortcode to view recent posts, I noticed if you select a category that has under 3 items, the layout gets messed up. Any way on how to fix this?
Would require some custom css at this point because it’s not setup to handle that scenario. If you need help with it, please open up a support ticket with your URL that contains this

curios is there a way to get an embeded video to show up as popup from a link/button placed on any page, say the homepage?
i have a series of paragraphs on one page with buttons that currently link to corresponding portfolio pages. this is fine but it would be great if users didn’t have to link to a new page to view the video. simply launching the emended video as a popup would better in this case.
Hey kaarbo! Yes, this is possible. You would simply need to write the html out in the text tab of your editor though instead of relyiong on shortcodes. You can turn any link into a lightbox by adding the class “pp” to the link. So to get started, here’s how a nectar button would look linked to a lightbox:
