Pre sale question:
Before I buy each theme I always check the code and pay attention to the usage of the HTML5 semantic elements.
I noticed that in Salient you haven’t used the elements: aside and footer, is there any reason for that?

The aside element had some controversy as to whether it was appropriate to use for a sidebar so I opted out at the time because it was better to be safe than sorry. As for the footer element – I will note to convert the footer div now into that, thanks for mentioning

Live Preview – Home Basic Structure Video slide
Is there something wrong with the way this slide is showing up? If I click the video to start, it expands but is leaving an about 80px black bar at the top, also no media nav appears when hovering the player, so it can not be minimized. So the overall handling seems a little weird.

I used your link now and you know what, in the iframe, the video was shown only within the slider container when I clicked the video full screen button. As I mentioned, it was not perfect but I actually liked the idea to have the “full size” limited to the slider area. If the video would have been centered, just like your background videos, I would have considered it a nice effect but now, with the link you have provided, I could see how it was mend, covering the entire monitor and not showing up within the slider container. I don’t know what I like more.

Yeah the iframe messes with the fullscreen button, but how it functions on the direct link is how it should and altering that would require some development.

We already use yoast for seo but do you have any better suggestion?
Hey mzuker, I haven’t heard of or used that plugin before so my opinion wouldn’t matter much. I would pose this question to them as they are the creators and would easily be able to tell you the pros and cons from switching

Hi there, I just added a Nectar Slider to the home page and it takes around 10 seconds to load which seems like a long time? I get a grey background with the spinning wheel, then it finally loads, even if its just an image background (doesn’t seem to make any difference if its image or video interestingly). I’ve disabled all plugins and its still happening. Any idea how to speed it up? I also tried a caching plugin but no luck. Otherwise, great theme!
Also, is it possible to have different slide durations in the Nectar Slider? i.e. so a video slide can display longer than a static image slide?

1. I would need to see your URL to be able to troubleshoot the loading issue – as you’ve probably seen on the demo, it should load a lot faster.

1. Are you viewing the site directly at http://themenectar.com/demo/salient on your device? If you view it inside of the ThemeForest iframe it can mess with the scrolling.

In a nutshell though I came here to verify a few things with you before I move forward with my project, I found your theme yesterday on this site http://www.themetrade.com , I am in the final stages of the development process of our internet marketing suite built on a multi site install, we integrated your theme last night and it for seamlessly into our setup, we will be charging for a membership to access our platform which will include a fully hosted blog with the theme we will end up using , I do want to use this theme for my project and I am in love with it already and have big plans to integrate with the e commerce function to allow members to create their own stores, but before I kick things off I need to verify with you that this site does hold a license that allows them to offer your theme in such a way, and that the license will allow me to accomplish the above without hindering any agreements within the licensing set forth.

Unfortunately, ThemeTrade has no right to sell Salient or any other theme from this marketplace for that matter, but they continue to do so illegally despite numerous complaints & take down notices. ThemeForest is aware of them, but apparently has been unable to do anything about the situation yet. Consider it to be on the same level as pirating, but instead of getting it for free you are paying them for nothing.
If you want to secure a real license for the theme and have unlimited access to future updates & support please purchase a copy from here

It’s a shame they are doing that, they are hurting both the consumer and the creator, it’s a lose, lose, I think everyone that has been affected by theme trade should all come together on a class action 
From the sounds of it you might indeed need an extended license because of the membership aspect but if you want to double check with Envato feel free to since this would apply to any theme you purchase from here not just Salient.

Hey djtavo03, no the average queue time under normal conditions is 24 hours – however a much larger than normal queue has built up due to the weekend + me having to focus on 2.5 & 2.5.1 for the past few days. Anyone else getting a lot of jitter during scrolling using Mac OS X Maverick and Safari browser? I am using Macbook Pro Retina.
Hey again ehong33234, if you’re noticing any issues with the smoothness of your scrolling, try disabling the “Smooth Scrolling” option in your theme options panel.

tried disabling it and while scrolling works better for safari, now the testimonial section on homepage is showing blank white area while showing fine on safari. Very strange.
There should be no correlation between the scrollbar and the testimonial section – if you’re experiencing issues, please open a ticket in regards so I can see your setup

Does the theme have its own slide show of sorts? I wanted to create screens on a portfolio page where you had your simple left and right slides that were showing 2-3 images per client.
Using Nectar Slider seemed a bit too ‘over the top’ for such a requirement and I wondered if there was a shortcode or something to do that from within the post/page?

To use it all you have to do is insert a standard WordPress gallery into your editor and then check the option in the project configuration box for “Gallery Slider”.

That slider is fairly basic, so unfortunately there’s no video support.

Ok sweet the update came through but it looks like the portfolio bug hasn’t changed. If you flick through the filters then go back to ‘all’ they appear but on load there are no items visible.. same as before.
And just to be safe i’ve re-downloaded the update a few times and cleared cache again 
From the sound of it you’re talking about something completely different than the actual known bug that was corrected. The bug 2.5.1 fixed was with the actual “Back to All” button, (the four squares icon button) that appears on the portfolio single page. That button was not leading anywhere unless the user assigned a location to it, when it should default to the main portfolio. That has now been corrected and verified.
I’m not sure exactly what you’re talking about and can’t replicate on my end – can I get a URL to check yours? Also, do you see this on the live demo?

Ok my bad. I had customised some of your css in General Settings which had an opacity:0; in the last version of salient but has been removed in this version. My portfolio items went stealth mode.

Hey there! First off, love the theme. Already use it on an agency website and plan on buying another license for a magazine site.
Have a few questions:
I am planning to build a magazine website with a full membership platform and such. The content provided as part of the online side of the magazine is free but the membership side would be paid/unpaid.
- Would this require me to buy the extended license or the normal one? tbh, can’t afford the full license but I rather clarify as I do massively respect your work.
Now, I want to build a magazine site as mentioned. This being a compilation of review plugins and such. A few design element questions:
1. Is it possible to make the featured component of any post anything (such as a video, an image or sound, whatever), but on the front end of the blog, let it only show a featured image and no other form of media? (sorry if this isn’t worded perfectly)
2. How much of a load would it add to the site if I started adding social media share tools (digg digg for instance) and a review plugin? I don’t want to break or overload the shiny new version of Salient lol
3. the site I have at the moment is TheArtsScene.ca – do you think, except the obvious 1 or 2 plugins – I can use the tools in Salient to create the relatively same design experience? Not looking for massive technical answer, but you know the capability of Salient far more than I do haha

To be honest, i’m not sure if you could get away with a standard license since it seems your project might legally require an extended one – if you want to double check with Envato I would shoot them an email in regards since the question would apply to any theme on here not just Salient in particular.
1. Yes, but it would require some custom css to hide the other content in post. (Not that hard of a mod)
2. You should be fine, I wouldn’t worry about the load a plugin like that adds – if you need to have that functionality there’s no other way around it anyway.
3. You could emulate a lot of it for sure, but would need some plugins as you already know and then you’d probably have to fine tune the css for them as well.

Thanks for the reply! I ended up consulting with themeforest and they said Im in the clear as far as licenses are concerned.
I completely forgot to ask: can I use the Nectar slider for blog posts? I would certainly want to emulate the magazine element of the website with featured blog posts showcased in the slider.

In regards to your question – you would have to create the slides up manually (as there’s no way to pull in posts to populate the slider automatically), but you could link each slide to your desired featured post
