Can you confirm that – aside from live search and scrolling and other bonus features, this will be fine on all devices (maintaining responsiveness) on all devices. Many thanks.
Hi Travis,
Yes, this theme is responsive.
Best, Juan.
Sorry. I am an idiot. I meant to ask if it is responsive WITHOUT JavaScript. I want to remove the js.
Hi Travis,
The responsiveness of a document is given by the rules you put in the CSS file according to the size of the visitor’s viewport (the size of the screen they’re using).
So, yes. In general terms it’ll be responsive without javascript.
The main problems that you’ll face:
- the navigation menu is handled with javascript. So that part of the site will be broken. - The likes functionality is handled via javascript. - The contact form is handled with javascript. - Live Search - Faq templates. - among others.
Best, Juan
This theme is really nice, but it would be perfect if it supported other post types like.. images, audio, links, etc…and that it displayed the corresponding icon as well.. there are currently only two types… article and video.. are you planning on adding this soon?
Hi,
Thank you for writing and for the kind words. Unfortunately, given that the theme is meant to work as a solution for knowledge base sites, we’ve focused in the main types of articles (default articles, videos). You can use images or any other content within the articles, though.
We have no plans to modify this in the near future.
Best, Juan.
Hi,
We just bought the theme, and now I’ve seem to found a potential show stopper.
I found two questions in the comments about displaying sub-categories in the (NiceThemes) Article Categories widget, but no real answer. Is this not possible? If not, it renders sub-categories useless, and it will be very difficult for users to find the articles they are looking for.
All help is appreciated.
Hi,
Thank you for writing. Would you please point me to those two questions?
Yes, unfortunately the widget only displays categories of the first level. How’s your category tree conformed?
Best, Juan.
Hi Juan,
Can’t seem to link to individual comments. Please see inwithforwards comment above, and Reidable asks the same question on page 3 of the comments.
My tree is nothing unusual. Just parent category -> child category.
Inwithforward wrote:

Hi,
Thank you for the follow up. I see, he never answered the question about which widget he was referring to. That’s why I haven’t replied about it.
I can now see that the both of you are speaking about the same widget. We’ll be reviewing to see if we can add that feature.
In the meantime I suggest you that you try a plugin like the following one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/list-custom-taxonomy-widget/
Perhaps by using something like this you get your problem solved in the blink of an eye.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Hello, first of all, beautiful theme! good work, congratulations.
before buying I’d like to know a few things:
1. the updates are guaranteed for future versions of Wordpress?
2. Supports for a Knowledge Base multi language with WPML? (for articles, search by ajax,etc..)
3. I can using the theme without bbpress forum? i not need this feature, only i need for knowledge base.
4.- work fine with visual composer and revolution slider?
Thanks
Hello,
Thank you for writing and for the kind words.
Regarding your questions:
1) Yes, one year of updates and compatibility with new WordPress versions.
2) Yes, it is WPML compatible. There are some texts that are populated through option values, so for those you’ll need to go and use the tool that WPML provides for that.
3) Yes, you can use it without bbPress. This plugin is just an addition for users that want to include a forum in their site.
4) We haven’t tested, but I suppose they work with our theme. We follow the WordPress coding standards in order to (among other things) avoid problems of compatibility with plugins.
Best, Juan.
Hello, I am running into a few limitations with the “article” content type.
1) Shortcodes aren’t working. Specifically I installed this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/accordion-shortcodes/ and the accordions are working on pages but not on articles.
2) Is there a shortcode to display a list of a category of articles? Like the equivalent of [display-posts… ] shortcode?
3) I have sub-categories under first level categories in articles but the widget provided only displays top level categories. suggestions?
Hello,
Thank you for writing and thank you for your purchase.
1) Do you get to see any JS error? This is probably related to some plugin incompatibility.
2) You have the [nicethemes_knowledgebase] shortcode in order to display a grid of articles categories like the one you see in the home page.
The different parameters are:
‘columns’: number of columns ‘category’: by default ‘0’, this category will be the parent category of the grid ‘numberposts’: number of posts to display per category.
3) When you mention “The widget”, which one do you mean?
Best, Juan.
Hey Juan:
The ability to have accordion content within articles is our top priority issue right now.
There isn’t a JS error – the shortcode for accordion just doesn’t work. Happy to use another plugin if you suggest something else.
The feature I require is to be able to have accordion content in an article. Currently I can do this through the FAQ feature but not in articles.
I could use any of these plugins if you can recommend which would be compatible: http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/10-wordpress-accordion-plugins/

Hi,
Thank you for writing. The theme doesn’t come with a shortcode for accordion. There’s a template in which you can use an accordion layout for the FAQs, but that’s just a template, not a shortcode.
I can recommend you this free plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/shortcodes-ultimate/ – It has thousands of downloads and a good rating.
Best, Juan.
The theme does not work. Specifically, the “article page” is blank and does not display any content.
Hello,
Thank you for writing. It is quite likely that your site didn’t update permalinks. Have you saved your permalinks over “Settings > Permalinks”. Please try that.
You can read more about permalinks, here: http://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/tips-tricks/wordpress-permalinks
Best, Juan.
Is there anyway to remove the knowledge base section? Can you guide me a way to remove it? In my site, I don’t have any need of it, but it’s there and it’s empty. Can you please show me a way to do it?
Hi,
Thank you for writing. Actually the home page template is meant to display the knowledge base articles as it is a knowledge base theme.
So, unfortunately, there’s no way to remove that through the theme options panel.
However, There are other options to do that by getting involved with the code.
The fist option would be adding a filter like this one into your theme functions.php file: https://gist.github.com/juanfraa/a312623e0dcc1fcb7023
Another option would be creating a child theme and modifying the file template-home.php and remove the call to the nicethemes_knowledgebase() function.
Best, Juan.
Hello, do this theme support the latest WP version 4.2.3?
Hi,
Thanks for writing. Yes it does.
Thank you, Juan.
Thanks.
I get this message when trying to upload the theme:
The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.
Hello,
Thank you for your purchase.
No problem. Well, that has to do with your server configuration. Please be sure that you are trying to install the “WordPress Theme” and not the whole package.
If the problem persist, try contacting your hosting provider and asking them how to change the upload_max_filesize in your server.
Best, Juan.
Hello, I have few pre-sale questions: 1. Can I remove sidebar completely and use full width everywhere? 2. Can I have “Search Widget and Knowledge base categories” on home page? 3. Is there any way I can see how Admin side look like?
Thank you!
Hello,
Thanks for writing. Answering your questions:
1. Yes, you can use the full width template for all the pages you need. 2. I don’t know what you mean by the “Search Widget” and “Knowledge Base categories”, but yes, you can decide what things you want to display on your home page through the theme options panel. 3. I can share a few screenshots with you: https://cloudup.com/cwFbhTVXoCA https://cloudup.com/cvGkdKxFZnX https://cloudup.com/ctdaJXfGXxT
Best, Juan.
How to remove the knowledge base section? I can’t find anywhere in the theme that I can do it.
Hi,
Thanks for writing. Unfortunately we can only provide support to people who purchased the product.
Best, Juan.
Hi,
I understand your concern. Of course our company has purchased the theme, otherwise I wouldn’t ask for such a detailed technical question. My boss paid for it with his account, but it’s my job to do it. Can you please provide support on this particular question as forcing someone who doesn’t understand Wordpress at all to post a question with his account here is not easy.
Hi,
I also understand your situation. Please understand that our themes our pirated in file sharing sites, so there are several precautions we need to take before giving support. We usually ask for the purchase key, that way we can verify each purchase.
Regarding your question, the knowledge base is part of the home page template by default. The best way to remove that would be having a child theme, with an edited “Home Page” template, in which you remove the code for the knowledge base.
Best, Juan.
Hi devs!
The Flatbase theme looks awesome! I have a challenge regarding site structure.
I want to build a site with a FAQ (1), group/sort those questions into categories (2) and relate them to companies (3). So there are 3 types of information.
Is it possible to make seperate FAQs within 1 site? I like the harmonica/accordion style and would like to use that for both the FAQ and the companies (to hide/view their addresses).
Best regards, Michiel
Hi Michiel,
Thanks for writing. I hope you are doing well.
Unfortunately that is not possible with the theme as is. The FAQs don’t have a taxonomy to categorize them. Plus, the accordion template list them all.
Regards, Juan.
do the articles part of a custom post type? or does it use the default post type
Hi,
Thanks for writing. The articles are part of a custom post type, “article”.
Best, Juan.
Hi! Nice looking theme. Before purchasing, is it possible to let users comment and add a discussion in the forum without log-in in?
Hi Teresa,
Thanks for writing and thank you for your kind words. The forum functionality is powered by bbPress, a plugin that gives the forum functionality to any WordPress site.
On the configuration page of that plugin you can set if you want anonymous posting (posting without having an account).
Best, Juan.
Hi,
Thx for this awesome theme.
Two questions though.
1: I would like the same pagination as the demo version. How can I create this? Right now is says “older post” I would like it to be “page 1 of 2” 2: On the home page I would like the order of articles to be based on date of publication (in the number of articles per category section). Could you tell me which setting I need to use.
Kind regards.
Playactive
Hi Playactive,
Thank you for the kind words and thanks for writing.
Regarding your questions:
1. Yes, you need to install the plugin wp page navi https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-pagenavi/
2. What version of the theme are you currently running?
Best, Juan.
Hey Juan,
I am running version: 1.0.1 Framework: 1.1.5
Hi Playactive,
Would you please update to the theme version 1.0.2 so we can give you a fix?
Best, Juan
Hi Juan,
I updated the theme. What should I do next?
Hi Playactive,
Thanks for the follow up. Now you can add the filter to the functions.php
I´ve created an example for you to try: https://gist.github.com/juanfraa/d434bcc629647bc98393
Best, Juan.
If you’re looking for a well-designed and executed theme, please look elsewhere. As this developer pointed out on his support site, the design flaws of this theme are on the demo site. I should have noticed these issues prior to buying the theme, because they are on the demo site. So, here are the issues I see:
1. Breadcrumbs are inconsistent across the site. Some page templates have them, some don’t. Breadcrumbs are absent from the Full Width, Gallery, Blog, Blog Masonry and Knowledge Base pages. 2. For the pages WITH breadcrumbs, they are inconsistently applied. For instance, the Breadcrumbs on the Contact page template appear OVER the page title but UNDER the page title for the FAQ, FAQ Scroll and Regular page templates. 3. Blog posts do not include Category OR Tags on the post! Who does that? 4. Blog Masonry and Blog page templates do NOT have titles on the blog index pages. 5. The blog title on the single post page is transfored into title caps. Everywhere else, the title appears as it was written.
There is also a typography issue that the author is investigating. Changing the typography using the theme controls does NOT change the typography of forms (Contact form) or buttons.
If you’re adept at coding your own PHP and CSS to fix all these issues…then go ahead and buy the theme. The author clearly states that NO customization help will be given, and he doesn’t seem to think that his theme has some very significant, basic design flaws.
Hello,
Thanks for your comment.
We appreciate your feedback. As stated in our forums, we´re reviewing the typography bug and we are willing to work and solve it. As for the rest, we understand that you are not happy with the way the theme works regarding your needs.
Please feel free to ask envato for a refund, we´ll be more than happy to give you a full refund: https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/202821460-Can-I-Get-A-Refund-
Best, Juan.
I stated that you are ‘investigating’ the Typography issue. That is true. However, you are not addressing the sloppy code in your theme and feel there is no need to do so. The theme is not broken; however, it is certainly a mess. Thus far, I have edited the headers on most of the page templates to get a uniform look across the site. These aren’t design decisions; they are coding mistakes.
Hello,
Thanks for the follow up.
Yes, we are fixing the typography issue.
I would like to know what do you call “sloppy code” to? And to call it “a mess”? And “coding mistakes”?
Please, I would like to know, so if you can answer, I would be really thankful
I repeat, please go and ask for a full refund. We’d be more than happy to give you a full refund: https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/202821460-Can-I-Get-A-Refund-
Best, Juan.
Hello Juan, I’d like to see you improve this theme rather than continue to argue that there’s nothing wrong with it. I clearly stated ABOVE what’s wrong. Looking at your PHP files for the page templates, it seems EASY to fix these issues. Actually, I have invested MY TIME editing the PHP files and the CSS to make sure that these pages are uniformly laid out. I also deleted your nice_breadcrumbs code and inserted Yoast breadcrumbs from Wordpress SEO since there’s significantly more control with Yoast; your breadcrumbs break when adding them to some pages that weren’t coded for breadcrumbs (e.g. adding your breadcrumb code to the Blog and Blog Masonry PHP files doesn’t work). Perhaps you just do feel it is worth your effort to continue to invest time in improving this theme. Regardless, I am not going to “get a refund” as you so clearly desire. I have invested too much of my effort to now drop it all because of your lack of interest in supporting your work.
Hello,
Thanks for the follow up.
As stated above, we are working in order to release a new version with the solution for the typography bug.
We are always interested in supporting our customers and improving our products. At this moment I’m stating that we are working in order to bring a new version with the fix for the typography. We do have interest in supporting our work, we’ve been supporting our work during our lifetime.
We have a support/customization policy that can be found here: http://nicethemes.com/article/support-vs-customizations/
At this moment, on ThemeForest, after-Market support is optional for Authors, and we are still offering support. We are really interested in supporting our products.
We never argued that our products are perfect. They are made by humans, including myself, and we make mistakes. At this moment we are working to solve a bug.
I understand that you are completely unsatisfied and disappointed with the product. You’ve been clear about that. We’re just trying to understand and see if you have some clear example for the resonant qualifications of “sloppy code”, “a mess” in order to take a look at.
Each item is exhaustively reviewed before entering a marketplace like ThemeForest.
(SIDE NOTE: I’d recommend you to use a child theme to customize templates and styles. WordPress professionals use child themes to customize their themes.)
I, personally as the founder of NiceThemes, contacted the envato support team and authorized a refund, you can get the refund here: https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
At the same time If you feel there is something wrong with the product, that we’re not addressing, feel free to send Envato Support a message and they’ll be able to look into it: https://help.market.envato.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Best, Juan.
Flatbase has been updated to 1.0.2
Great. I’ll see if the update solves the typography issues. And I’ll contact Envato support to discuss the quality issues. And OF COURSE I’ve used a child theme.
The 1.0.2 update did fix the typography issues. Thank you.
Hi,
I’m happy to hear that. Have a nice day.
Best, Juan
Hi! Great theme – i am currently integrating it on my site http://arbeidsmiljoloven.com/
I have one problem however: I need to have 20 arricles in on category, but it seems like the theme per default is limited to just 15?! Can you please tell me how to list 20 articles on the fornt page in one category?
Hi,
Thank you for your kind words. You have different options to solve your problem.
You can create a child theme and modify the file template-home.php in order to list more than the maximum amount by default, or you can go and edit the file /flatbase/includes/options.php and in the line number 328 change the maximum amount for that option field. If you take a look you´ll see that, at the moment, the code looks like this:
‘max’ => ‘15’
you need to change the ‘15’ to the number you need, and then the option field will have that maximum instead.
Best, Juan.
Thanks Juan! Will try that!
No problem
Have a nice day, Juan.
Hello. Nice theme. I use WPML to make a Multilanguage website. I have two issues:
1. At front page Knowledgebase section displays only the categories of articles. I had translate everything correctly. Also at a page with template Knowledgebase it doesn’t show the articles.
2. At search input on the front page when I try to search something in Greek language, it displays the results in Ajax live search a hole page, not just a list of articles.
I have create two printscreens in order to help you understand my issues.

Hi there,
Thanks for writing. It sounds pretty strange. Would you please send me your site details to support@nicethemes.com so we can take a look at it?
Best, Juan.
Hi again. Six days have passed since I send you an email with details about my problem. Did you receive it? I haven’t any news from you until now. Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for the follow up. Unfortunately we haven´t received your email. Would you please send it again? Please cc to juan@nicethemes.com as well.
Thanks for your patience.
Best, Juan-
Worst documentation to the theme of what I saw. How to customize your homepage? How to set up a forum? The documentation on this is not written. Xml file is not a topic for this you need to register with the support and documentation about nothing. If you download xml it does not solve the problem of theme settings.
Hello William,
Thanks for writing, and suggesting improvements in our documentation. We’re working in order to improve the documentation.
You are right, the XML file only contains the information to be imported. That’s not on our end, it is a WordPress standard. The XML file always import data and not settings. It is always like that, on any theme.
So, once you import the XML file, you need to do the following:
1. Set up your front page: http://nicethemes.com/article/setting-home-page/
2. Set up the widgets: http://nicethemes.com/article/using-wordpress-widgets/
3. Be sure to assign your navigation menu to its proper location: http://nicethemes.com/article/setting-navigation-menu/
If you want to customize your home page, you can do it through the Theme Options panel, which is located over the dashboard “NiceThemes > Theme Options”.
With regards to set up a forum, we mentioned in the theme description that it is bbPress compatible, so we assumed that it is tacit that you need to install bbPress in order to set up a forum.
You can find some detailed documentation on how to set up a bbPress forum here: https://codex.bbpress.org/step-by-step-guide-to-setting-up-a-bbpress-forum/
Best, Juan.
Hey Juan! Great theme. My boss purchased it for our documentation website and I’m finishing the setup at this time. He purchased under his own account and I am using my personal one for this question. Let me know if that is an issue and I can ask him for the purchase code.
We are wanting to EXCLUDE a specific knowledgebase (article) category from displaying on both the homepage and the knowledgebase page. I’ve achieved this currently by adding the home and knowledgebase templates on our child theme and adding the “exclude” parameter to the nicethemes_knowledgebase function.
While this works perfectly fine I feel this should be achieved through a custom filter or hook instead of having to maintain a duplicate template but I didn’t see any hints for a filter or hook within your functions file so I am not sure if this is at all possible.
If it is in fact possible, could you share some technical notes for implementation? otherwise would you consider this for a future update?
Thanks again!
Hi,
Thanks for your kind words.
Well, the function nicethemes_knowledgebase has several hooks in order for you to add filters.
For example, an easy way to exclude a category: https://gist.github.com/juanfraa/d5bcc9d3873e271259f2
Best, J.
Ha! exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks Juan!
No problem
We always appreciate product ratings from our happy campers
Have a nice day, Juan.
Hello, We cannot preview an article from WP-admin. It is giving us a 404. This is happening on our localhost as well as the live site – www.brightpod.com/help/
Is this a known bug?
Hello,
Thanks for writing and thank you for your purchase.
Actually it is a WordPress bug with post formats, if you rip off the ‘&post_format=standard’ out of the URL then it should be previewing the article.
Best, Juan.
Thanks Juan. That worked. However, we have a blog setup on WP also and the Preview from there works fine even though it has got the &post_format name/value.
Yes, the problem is with the custom post type (article). It is WordPress related, not to the theme. We’re trying to read more about it and make more tests to see if there’s a possible solution.
Best, Juan.
Hey Juan, When I remove the &post_format=standard portion of the URL, the post does load, but it is the original post, not the new one with edits made.
So, there is no way to preview changes before taking a post live?
Hi there,
Thanks for the follow up. I see. I’m checking what can it be, it sounds like a WordPress core related problem. We’re making tests and doing some research about it. I’ll come back to you when I have an answer.
Thanks for your patience.
Hi spparikh,
Thanks again for your patience. It seems that it is a WordPress core bug. However, I’ve found a way to solve this.
Please check the code here: https://gist.github.com/juanfraa/ca449eaa9352fcbfdafe
Copy and paste that code to your functions.php file and you’ll get it solved.
Best, Juan.
Thanks Juan. Works
Awesome, have a nice day
Best, Juan.
