Hello, I am trying to re-purpose the Portfolio area to show our Accommodations instead, so users can filter the Accommodations by Cabins, Lodge, etc. This would work except that the Date and “About This Project” seem to appear automatically, as well as the “Category” overlaied on top of the photo. Is there anyway I can get rid of those titles so I can use the Portfolio for something else?
Thank you!
Hi,
You can remove these items by adding the following code to your custom css field:
.single-portfolio_page .portfolio_single .portfolio_single_text_holder, .single-portfolio_page .portfolio_single .q_date_info {
display: none;
}
.single-portfolio_page .portfolio_single .column2 {
float: right;
}
.single-portfolio_page .portfolio_single .gallery_text_inner{
display: none;
}
Hope this is helpful.

Thank you! I’m glad to know I can fix this, but adding that code did not remove the “About This Project” headline. See the page here: http://vistaverde.blueskydesigns.net/ranch-blog/portfolio_page/big-agnes. Can you also tell me how to add some space below the header image so the content isn’t right up against it? Thank you!
Ok, I figured out the padding, thank you, if you can just help me remove “About This Project.”
Hi,
Sorry about that, please add the following code also to your custom css field to hide the About this Project headline:
.portfolio_single .portfolio_detail .q_about_title{
display: none;
}
To add some space between the header and content please add this code:
.single-portfolio_page .content{
margin-top: 100px;
}
and just adjust the margin-top value to suit your needs.

I’d like to make the email address on my contact form clickable and have it open an email from the viewer’s email program because some people prefer that over using a form.
I tried using a text block with a mailto code like this, but it wouldn’t take:
So can you tell me how to link the email address listed on the contact page so it’s clickable and opens an email?
Thanks.
Ha, the code wouldn’t show, but it’s a basic mailto code.
Ok, will do. Thanks.
Btw, it’s been 3 days now since I submitted a ticket about my blog page and I haven’t heard anything back, and the problem hasn’t been addressed. How long do these things take?

Support added some custom css in a new text block and it works like a charm now.
Here’s the code in case anyone else wants to make the email address a clickable link (I changed the address to a generic one here):
icons icon_pack=’font_elegant’ fa_icon=’’ fe_icon=’icon_mail_alt’ fa_size=’’ custom_size=’20’ type=’normal’ position=’’ border_color=’’ border_hover_color=’’ icon_color=’#000’ icon_hover_color=’’ background_color=’’ background_hover_color=’’ margin=’0 16px 0 0’ icon_animation=’’ icon_animation_delay=’’ link=’mailto:name@website.com’ target=’_blank’]
The hover colour can also be changed to suit, btw.
Thanks so much – Peter.

Figured this one out myself: on the home page where the blog section appears, there’s an option after you click to edit it, where you can choose to display the author or not. Well, duh, selected No and now it doesn’t show the author.
I wish all Monday mornings were this good!

Your animated numbers sections doesn’t support the use of a comma (,) for larger numbers. I had to modify all the code just to accept a comma. You should have tested larger numbers in that section.

On my blog page, the posts are displaying in full for some reason and I can’t figure out how to have it show just the featured image and a summary with the read more button.
In settings, I have my posts page set as medium image with sidebar, the feed set to show a summary.
For the page itself, I’ve tried the parent set to blog and to (no parent), with the template set to blog medium image.
Still shows the posts in their entirety. In fact for the most recent post, I can actually click on the jpgs in the post and they open in their own window, as though viewing that post separately. The rest of the them open the post when I click on a jpg or the title.
How do I get the blog page to display the posts with a summary instead of the whole post?
Thanks.
Hi,
Please go to Select Options > Blog, and make sure that for your blog list you don’t have some “Whole Post” template chosen: http://screencast.com/t/SxvYMWDQ

Menu question: I want to add a portfolio link to my menu. But I don’t see an option to select portfolio in the menu choices, nor do I see the portfolio categories.
My solution so far is to add a custom menu item and then use the url for each portfolio item as sub-menus.
Is there not a way to add all portfolio items to the menu? My way seems a little cumbersome.
Thanks.
Hi,
To add your portfolio list page to the menu, in the pages section of your menus screen, switch to “view all” and find the page you set your portfolio list on.
For portfolio single items and portfolio categories, you will have to use custom links.
Select
Ok, thanks – just did it and it looks great.
One thing I noticed and didn’t like is that the portfolio items were jammed right up underneath the header, and since I added an image to my header, it doesn’t look good.
I wanted a line of space, so I added ” ” in the text editor just above where the portfolio list appears, and that worked like a charm.
Guess ampersands don’t display in these comments.
The code I used for adding a line of space is an ampersand followed by nbsp; with no space between. Just thought I’d add that for anyone who wondered how to do that.
Hi,
Thanks for helping out other customers.
We’re glad you found a solution for this. You could also use a transparent separator to add empty space between elements.
Select
Ok, cool. I just tried adding a separator using the shortcode button, but how do I actually insert it into the page?
When I click the shortcode button, a window pops up for setting the width, etc, but there’s no Submit button like there is for other shortcodes.
Hi,
To add a separator to your page, from Visual Composer choose the separator element and choose the following options: http://screencast.com/t/8vQxgq4ShqgD
Just adjust the thickness of the separator to suit your needs, and then click “save changes” and the separator will be added to your page.
Select
Ok, got it. I was using the text editor rather than the visual composer.
So I added a separator using the visual editor, but I can’t move it up so that it appears between the header and the portfolio items.
Below is a screen shot of the visual editor showing my separator and then below that is a screen shot of how it appears – you can see that I need a space between the header and the items.
But it doesn’t allow me to move the separator up above the porfolio list, nor does it allow me to move the portfolio list to below the separator.

I went ahead and added a new column and inserted a new portfolio list into it, and then it allowed me to add a separator above that.

Hi,
Thanks for the update
Select
In the portfolio section, when I select the gallery option, my vertical/portrait format photos display full frame. So the next row of photos starts at the bottom of the vertical photo(s).
If there are horizontal/landscape photos in the same row as the vertical ones, it looks quite odd, leaving blank space beside the horizontal photos.
Is there a way to have the vertical photos displayed on the gallery page in a cropped horizontal format, so they all line up properly?
Below is a link to a screenshot that shows what I mean.
I don’t see an option for a mosaic-style gallery layout – is it possible to use a plugin for that?
Thanks.
http://imageport.ca/Screen%20Shot%202014-10-06%20at%209.27.25%20AM.pngHi,
Unfortunately there is no option that crops photos automatically for the portfolio single gallery. For this you will have to crop the photos to the same size in some image editing software like Photoshop, and then upload them already cropped.
Regarding a plugin, we haven’t tested any plugin with this functionality for our theme, so we unfortunately couldn’t recommend any. You could test some out for yourself and see if you can find any that suits your needs.
Select
That’s what I figured. It’s just the gallery display that’s an issue, so I was hoping there was a way to have the verticals display in a cropped fashion and then show full size when clicked.
For the time-being, I managed to arrange the horizontal & vertical photos in groups of 3 so there’s a consistency at least for this gallery.
May try a few plugins and see how it goes. One of my other themes has what they call a “mosaic” layout, so the photos are arranged kind of willy-nilly, depending on the formats of each photo. Looks really cool, actually.
Thanks again for the quick response – you guys are killing it on the support for this theme!
- Peter.
Hi,
You could also try using the portfolio custom template, which gives you the option of building your portfolio item from scratch via Visual Composer like you would build a normal page. You can select the template from your portfolio single page from the backend in the Choose portfolio single view field.
Then you could add the Image gallery element to your portfolio item via Visual Composer and set the image gallery type to Image grid, and then set some size for your images, and they will be all cropped to that size, and when clicked will open a lightbox in the original image size.
If you decide to try this, please first make sure that Visual Composer has been enabled for your portfolio items, by going to Settings > Visual Composer, and making sure the portfolio_page content type checkbox has been selected.
Hope this is helpful.
Select
Thanks for the detailed reply. For the time-being, I think I’ll leave it alone and just manually line up the photos horizontally vs vertically so they appear ok in the 3-column template I’m using. Could also just go with the single image template where they align underneath one another. That would solve the problem, but I don’t like that format as much as the 3-column one.
But when I have a bit more time, I will revisit it and create a custom template using your instructions.
Cheers!
Glad we could help.
Select
I went ahead and followed your instructions for the portfolio custom template and it worked perfectly.
The only thing is, the photos are butted against one another vertically and it’s not very pleasant-looking. There’s white space between the rows, and I’d like to add some between the rows, like in the standard portfolio gallery option.
Thanks.
Sorry, meant to say the photos are stacked tightly on top of one another in the columns. There’s space between the columns, and I’d like to have a similar space between the horizontal rows.
Hope that makes sense.

Then just add a testimonial element to this row.

I’m confused because on your demo pages you have a section titled “Projects”, but it looks as though the items show there are actually from the Portfolio section. Is this correct?
I presume you simply named the section Projects, but it is in fact, the Portfolio section.
But then there’s a link in the menu called Portfolio. Looking for some clarification on this – are the Projects & Portfolio sections the same thing?
Thanks – Peter.
Hi Peter,
Yes, the Projects section on the front page, and the Portfolio pages are basically the same thing. The link in the menu “Portfolio” leads to all the different portfolio templates available, while the projects section on the home page just shows how you can integrate a portfolio list into any page, we just decided to name this section Projects as it displays various projects from a portfolio.
Hope this helps.
Select
Yup, that’s what I thought. Thanks for confirming.
Working with the Portfolio section now, and I started by editing the first one on your demo page in your “Projects” section. It’s a 3-column grid with space between the images called Berlin Design Week.
But I can’t figure out how to swap out the existing photos for mine. I was able to add a few of my own, but I don’t see where to delete the existing ones.
Also, after I added 3 of my own photos, when I click on the individual ones (including the ones that were already in the gallery), they no longer open in the lightbox. And when I hover over mine, the file name displays at the top of the photo, whereas the existing ones display titles like DESIGN, BERLIN, IDEAS, GALLERY, etc.
Can you help?
Btw, do you guys have any instructional videos? I searched youtube, but couldn’t find you.
Ok, I figured it out. All the images in your demo portfolios were uploaded as Single Upload and I was looking in the Multiple Upload area, trying to figure out why I couldn’t see any images.
Now that I’ve found them in the single upload area, I’m good to go.
Confusing, though.
Hi,
Unfortunately we don’t have any instructional videos, but you can take a look at our documentation which is located in the zip file you received on purchase in documentation/soho/index.html
Regarding your issue, could you please submit a ticket to http://select.ticksy.com/ and our support team can help you with setting up your portfolio.
Select
I have your documentation open and it’s good to a certain point. But nothing beats video for detailed examples of setting up things like the portfolio. I know it’s a big undertaking, though.
Anyway, I went into Select Options, Portfolio and looked around. Turns out the option for Enable Lightbox for Single Project was set to OFF, so that’s why it wasn’t opening the lightbox. Once I changed it to ON, the lightbox started working again.
I would suggest that you change the default to ON, btw, but that’s just me.
And it isn’t covered in your documentation, either. I had to poke around a bit. That’s where videos come in really handy. I’ve used a couple of other theme companies that use video instruction and it’s a huge time-saver.
Meanwhile, I’m moving right along with my client’s site and it’s looking fantastic! Can’t wait to finish and launch it!
Cheers.

I’m looking to add a couple of new icons for the Fun Facts section. I see where I can select from the icon menu, but I don’t see an option to add new ones.
How can I add new icons?
- Peter.
Hi,
Do you want to replace the current icons with new ones? If so, you can just click to edit the icon element: http://screencast.com/t/LNF7u4rlu and then choose a new icon from the icon dropdown.
If you would like to add more icons above the counter, you can click on the little plus in that column to add more elements to the column: http://screencast.com/t/JkiazL3yN7
Select
Yes, I was looking to add a new one. When I click on the little + sign, it opens the box with all the options. But if I click on “icon”, it only shows the icon packs to select from.
How do I choose a new one that I’ve uploaded to the media library?
Thanks, we’re gettin’ there!
Hi,
Sorry about the misunderstanding. In this case you should not use the icon element, since the icon element only recognizes Font Awesome icons which we use for icons in our theme. So with the icon element you can only select the predefined Font Awesome icons.
You could use the single image element for this, since the icon you have uploaded to the media gallery is some image.
Hope this is helpful.
Select
Sweet deal! Got the new icon to display using the single image element.
Thanks again, guys!
You’re welcome. Glad we could help.
Select
Is there a way to have the single image element display centred above the title, the same way the icons do?
I understand that I can’t import another font pack in order to get the icons I need, so I’m trying the single image route.
But when I add a single image with text element to a section, there’s no option for where the image appears – it just goes to the left and the title & text appear beneath it.
What I’m trying to do is replace the icons in the What We Do and Why Us sections with other icons I’ve found online. My client is a custom home builder & designer, so I have to go beyond the icons available via the theme font packs.
If you can show me how to have the image appear in the same position as the icons, that would be perfect.
Thanks.
Hi,
To achieve this you should use a single image element for your image, and then a text block for your text, and put them in the same colum, one below the other.
Then you can center a single image inside the column you added it to by going to edit the single image from Visual Composer and choosing “Align center” from the “Image alignment” dropdown field: http://screencast.com/t/B0Eyolmh
Hope this is helpful.
Select
Cool. It got complicated when I wanted to replicate the title and font, etc, so what I ended up doing was add a single image element, centre aligning it and then moving it above the icon with text element. And I left the icon part blank so none appears, but my new one in the image element takes it’s place.
Thanks for your help!
The Why Us section worked fine using the single image element as you suggested because the icons are above the text. But now I’d like to replace the icons in the What We Do section, and they’re to the left of the text.
I can’t figure out how to place a single image element to the left of the text & title like that. Can this be done?
It would be so much easier if we could simply import a new font pack. Is that not possible at all?
Thanks.
Hi,
You can achieve this by setting a custom layout for the columns in that row and using a layout like 1/6 + 1/4 + 1/6 + 1/4, and then setting your images in the 1/6 columns and your text in the 1/4 columns beside your images, so your layout from the back end would look something like this: http://screencast.com/t/aGyVpfFz
Hope this is helpful. Also, for any further assistance could you please submit a ticket to http://select.ticksy.com/ since this thread is so long and it is suitable for the ticketing system so others can view the solution to these issues.
Select
Ok, thanks for the info. I gave it a try, but it doesn’t align the same using an image element with a text element side-by-side. At least, I can’t get it to do so. I would like it to line up the same as the demo, which uses the icon with text element.
Maybe I’ll add a public ticket, as you suggest.
To my other question, is there no way to add new icons to the ones that you have installed?
Thanks.
Hi,
No unfortunately there is no way to add icons to replace our icon pack. You could add some font icons like you would add a webfont to your site, but you wouldn’t be able to use them in our shortcodes, but would have to use html to add them to your page, and would again have to build your elements to look like icon with text.
Select
Ok, np. Thanks.
You’re welcome.
Select
Ok, thanks. I managed to use the single image element and it looks good.

Hi,
To change this image, please go to your home page from the backend, and find this row that the testimonials are in from the Visual Composer view. Then click to edit that row: http://screencast.com/t/EXydNQ4Cm4 and then in the row options you will see the background image and from here you can change it.
Hope this is helpful.

Aha! I knew it was hiding there somewhere. Thanks for the quick response, really appreciate it.
I have to say that I was hesitant to buy this theme because of some of the complaints about response time to questions here in the support area and on your tickets. But based on this, I don’t think I have anything to worry about
Btw, this theme rocks!! I’m having fun setting up my client’s site, and it looks fantastic already.
I’m a photographer, so I was drooling over this theme as well as your Nouveau theme, both of which are very image-rich. Not only do they provide a gorgeous home for my clients’ products, they also allow me to showcase my photography.
Cheers!
- Peter.
Hi Peter,
We’re glad we could help, and thank you so much for these very kind words. We’re thrilled that you are enjoying working with our theme.
Select
Ok, now you’re freaking me out!! Lol.
You’re welcome!
And your Soho theme is so customizable that not only will I be using if for the client’s business I’m currently using it for (a custom home builder) I’m also going to be using it for their other business (custom cabinet company). I showed them the many variations on your demo page and they were the ones who suggested I use one of those for the other company. It’s unique enough to establish that it’s a different website from the other one, but there’s a consistency in the layout & design that potentially links the two.
If I could make a suggestion that I think many others would find useful, it would be to include somewhere in your documentation the sizes of the photos used in your demos. I know now to go to the media library and check each image that I want to replace, but it’s a bit of a pain in the rear. A “photo sizes” list would rock and be very convenient.
Thanks again, I’m sure I’ll have more questions for you.
- Peter.
Hi Peter,
Thanks once more for the kind words.
Also, thank you for your feedback, we will pass on your suggestion to our development team for further consideration.
Select
Cool.
Quick question: how can I set the speed of the testimonials section? It’s the “What They Said” one I need to slow down.
I saw someone else asked about this and you said it could be done with code.
Thanks.
Hi,
From your theme root go to js/default.js and in this file find the initTestimonials function. Here you can change the value for the slideshow speed. Set this value to something lower: http://screencast.com/t/OkrjubdaW3Hj
Then you need to minimize the default.js file and copy it’s whole minimized content into the default.min.js file (overwrite the current content of the default.min.js file with the newly minimized content of the default.js file).
If you want to make sure that this change won’t revert back when you update the theme, you should do this in your child theme. Just remember to copy these two files to your child theme and make the path to the files the same in your child theme as in your main theme (put them in a folder named js in your child theme).

Ok, thanks for the detailed instructions.
I’m already well on my way with setting up this theme, but I’m not using using a child theme. And I have a feeling I’m going to want to make other modifications/customizations, so if I go the child theme route, will I be able to transfer and use what I’ve already set up? I’m referring to the content I’ve uploaded and used for the sliders and other parts of the home page so far. I don’t want to lose what I’ve already spent a fair amount of time on.
Thanks.
Hi,
You won’t loose your content by using the child theme. You will have exactly the same site, just with whatever modifications you make in the child theme. The child theme is used so when you modify some file the modification remains after theme update. The child theme uses all the files from the main theme except those that you add to the child theme and modify.

Ok, that’s cool.
I looked in the documentation that comes with your theme, but I don’t see any instructions on installing a child theme. Are there any instructions you can point me to? And is there a specific way to set up the child them after already customizing the main theme like I have?
Sorry for all the questions, but I’ve never gone the child theme route before. Probably should, since I tend to make modifications to the themes.

Hi Peter,
You can install the child theme the same way you installed the main theme. In the zip file you received on purchase just find the soho-child zip file and use that instead of the soho.zip file that you used when installing the main theme. After you install the child theme, all you need to do is go to Appearance > Themes, and activate the child theme instead of the main theme.

Ok, gotcha. So once I do all of that, will the newly-activated child theme display all the changes I’ve already made to the regular theme? That’s my concern, that I don’t lose all those changes when I switch to the child theme.
Thanks again for the fantastic response time, I really appreciate it.
Hi,
You’re welcome.
Nothing will change when you activate the child theme, all your content and the options you set will stay the same.
Just note, if you have already made some changes in our code in the main theme, these will be lost when you update the main theme, so if you want those changes not to get lost on update you will have to make them in the child theme as well.

Ok, awesome. Nope, no code changes. Just content and removing menu items and such.
Going to go the child theme route and will check back in after.
Cheers.
Ok, let us know if you run into any issues.

Hi,
My friend purchased this theme and I’m helping him to develop his website.
I’m having a bit of trouble when using contact form 7. There are no borders around the text areas, what can I do to rectify this? I need the border to be #252525.
Thanks, Gareth

Hi, Your theme is great. Thank you. I have a problem. When I put a ”” portfolio list ” in Visual Composer, and configuring I put a category (not all be left blank), the page no longer works. This is for all categories and on every page of your site demo. Do you have an idea of the problem. thank you

Hi,
From what we can see in this error log above, the issue is coming from some plugin named Quite nice bookings. Please try deactivating this plugin and see if that solves the issue, or you could submit a ticket with a link to your site and wp-admin access to http://select.ticksy.com/ and our support team will take a look and see if they can help you solve the issue.
